(All) Poll re: potential Zip! Sequel
Added 2021-08-08 16:00:05 +0000 UTCWhich of the below best describes your reaction to Zip! Speedster of Valiant City?
There's a chance I'll create more Zip! content, but I'd like to get your feedback about the first Zip! to help inform my thought process.
If your response is something much different than any of the options, feel free to post a comment with your reaction.
And please be brutally honest! I can't see who votes which way, so I'll never know your reaction, unless you choose to make a comment, of course.
EDITED TO ADD AFTER SEEING SOME VOTES COME IN: If you haven't played Zip!, you can play it for free (with ads and timers that require you to take pauses) on the Omnibus app for either Apple or Android. It can also be purchased on the Omnibus or on Steam. Purchasing is basically a "tip" to me (and CoG), does away with the ads and timer pauses, and unlocks a cheat to make your MC pretty OP.
It's a superhero speedster interactive novella (about 48k words) that will take about 45 min to an hour to play. I guess I should have mentioned this game a bit more here since some don't know about it.

I hope you enjoy it! It was cool writing a more world-weary MC, one with baggage and regrets, and I was sorta hoping some players would appreciate a non-YA/new adult type of MC. And thank you for being such a huge supporter!

2021-08-09 13:51:59 +0000 UTCI bought it, haven't finished it yet. I would buy another regardless though. A. I like the nods and the idea of playing as an already renowned hero B. I like the age of the MC and C. Simply to support.
2021-08-09 04:28:22 +0000 UTCThanks for letting me know! I'm thinking a sequel would feature the Yes Man (mind control is a pretty darn good foil to super speed!) And a part 3 could feature the Sloth convincing the Miscreants to all work together to take down the MC once and for all. I'm excited just writing it!

2021-08-09 01:39:56 +0000 UTCI liked the short fasted pace story as it was nice to zoom through the story and then go straight for the replay. I do prefer longer storys but i also love so speed run a short one here and there. Many shorts feel rushed but in zip i didnt feel rushed so yea for a short story i loved it. Would love to see a sequel.
2021-08-08 23:04:27 +0000 UTCI wrote it so that it could either just stay as a one shot, or it could launch into new stories. That was a talk I had with the CoG team. I wanted to provide some varied endings, but I didn't want to make those endings SO varied that continuing from all saves would be impossible. Really, I just have to account for the state of the city, your relationship status with partner, Rocket, and Whippet, and that's pretty much it. You can be the mayor, or you can be rich, etc., but those things would probably just add flavor to a sequel more than actually affect the plot. As far as how long additional content would be, I'm not sure - it would depend on any agreement with CoG. Honestly, I have a trilogy all in my head, but you know how that goes; we all have more ideas than we have writing time. I tried to plant a bit of "lore" into the story (hinting at Port Noir and other locations, and at other baddies like Yes Man, and your colorful history, but yeah there was only so much that I could do given the nature of the game.

2021-08-08 20:15:10 +0000 UTCi did buy zipped when it came out and probably only played it like twice? it’s nice and fun, but it is very short. i prefer longer games for the character interactions/development and lore. would the sequel be just as short? because overall it felt like a one shot kind of story. it was nice to see the little cameo it makes in the book 3 demo though.
2021-08-08 19:31:16 +0000 UTCI really just meant "outright purchased" when I said "upgrade" so maybe I was more confusing than I need to be. Actually, I didn't need to be confusing at all! :) Anyway, there are ways to play it for free, so I was just trying to figure out who took the plunge and bought it (which gives you the Juice boost). I have a lot of story ideas for this universe, but the pricing approach we used (free with incentives to purchase) didn't result in sufficient royalties for me to do this again exactly the same way. And regarding the pacing, I'm glad you liked it. Yes I felt that a speedster story couldn't drag along, that it needed to start off fast and keep rushing forward at breakneck speed. Of course it could have been longer, even a "full" regular game, but I honestly thought "speedster" was a good fit for a shorter game.

2021-08-08 16:13:55 +0000 UTCNot sure what the "upgrade" is referring to; I bought the game on Steam and really liked it! I don't get why people view it as short; I thought the game was perfectly paced, story-wise. It did leave me wanting more, but not in a "it was too short" way, but in a "I hope there's a sequel" way, so if there is indeed going to be a continuation of the story, I'm all for it! ^_^
