My NYC Midnight Score for Challenge 1 and entry for Challenge 2

So I'm writing in a flash fiction competition sponsored by NYC Midnight. Entries are limited to 1,000 words, and must be written in a 48-hour window. Basically, you get your prompt at midnight on a Friday (they give you a required genre, setting, and object that must appear), and you have to turn in a finished product by Sunday at midnight.

Almost 4,000 people enter, and prizes are fairly limited (only the top 20 or so get anything) but you get to participate in Challenges 1 and 2 no matter what, and then the highest scorers move on to Challenge 3 (and then those top scores move to Challenge 4, which is the final). It's more about honing your craft and learning than it is about winning prizes.

So my Challenge 1 story, which I posted last month, titled "The World's Most Dangerous Fly" finished 10th out of 30 people in my group, earning me 6 points. Not bad for my first attempt ever in a contest like this, but I was a little disappointed because I thought I was original with the prompts.

Realistically, I would need to score at least 10 or 11 points with my Challenge 2 story to have any chance of moving to Challenge 3. So here it is, my drama set in an ice cream shop titled "A Scoop of Reality." I won't learn my score until mid-November, and life is SO BUSY between now and then, I'm just putting it out of my mind for now.

Warning: This is a much more realistic, slower-paced story than my other stuff. No superheroes in this one.

BUT...the end of the month, I'll give you the 'scoop' on my almost-finished WiP draft that DOES have superheroes (and villains) in it. (Not CCH3, but this is something I hope tides people over for a little bit)

Have a Specktacular weekend!
