Deciding how to move forward - please share your thoughts

So there are still two weeks left before the one-month "freeze" ends, which gives me time to figure out how, or whether, to move forward.

I would like to continue this community, as I really enjoy the connection with you fine folks. Eventually, I would like to become a full-time Creative, and I've viewed this page as an excellent way to communicate with core readers and build a transitional phase, but such a move is still years away, and so I need to figure out what works for me in this season of my life (and more importantly, what works for you!!)

I am trying to free up more time for family and writing, and to spend a bit less time on "writing related" tasks (social media, web site, interacting here, working on art projects, etc)

So I have an idea, and I'm wondering if it's something people would be interested in.

The idea would be to rework this page to move everyone down to $1.00, and to make it a "per creation" approach instead of a monthly charge. The "per creation" would be a short story. So basically it would work like this...

So when I have "easy" months with family and work, and I have time to write a short story (probably CCH-related), I would post it here, and everyone would be charged $1.00.

And when I have "hard" months with family and work, I don't feel pressured to post a short story, because no one will be charged unless I do. It gives me flexibility, and it gives you the ability to support my writing in a low-cost way.

I don't know that the current  "access to WiP" is really working very well for two reasons: 1) I don't feel I am working quickly enough to justify charging, and 2) I don't get much feedback here when I do post updates,  just because of the small volume of readers, and frankly, I need a LOT of feedback to help juggle all the details and make sure I don't screw up in the direction I'm going. So moving the CCH WiP back to the CoG forums might make sense.

So does anyone have strong opinions on this? Would anyone object to the $1 per short story change?

Comments

Hopefully others will chime in, but I have to stay just from the initial comments, I am leaning towards doing the $1 thing. It would be confusing at first, as everyone would have to move to the new Tier themselves (I can't move anyone from Tier to Tier), and I'd have to give a good amount of notice. If I do this, I'll post all the specifics!

I think it sounds like a perfect idea. It means we can still fund for the works you bring out while it makes sure you don't feel pressured to bring out content when you have other important priorities. Whichever choice you decide, I'll happily keep supporting you and everything you do!

I don't mind the change. Sounds like it'd make for an interesting change of pace and I can't say no to CCH shorts!

I think all the tiers would disappear in favor of just the $1 "per creation" level, BUT if someone really wanted a custom sheet I think Adrienne could probably make it happen (I can't speak for her though).

Oh I forgot to mention an additional question: would the one-time high end tiers still be available? I was thinking about donating at the Wyrven tier once I finally get through CCH2

I think this makes a lot of sense. I think all of us here understand that writing for CoG isn’t a job nor a top priority for its writers. I would miss the updates being regular and such, but it’s understandable if that’s the direction you need to go. I personally will have trouble commenting on the WiC on the forums, as I am not very active, but again it makes sense to open up the WiC to a larger community if we aren’t offering you enough feedback. No matter, whatever you decide upon, I’ll continue to support you and the wonderful work you put out!

Sounds good to me,besides I dont want you to feel stressed out
