A week with a puppy at our house!

So we got Navi, our vizsla pup, early. But just for a week before our freeflight trip... this is how it went.

Yep, that's how we handle it with birds too! Usually they will trade that handy personal item for a nut ;)

My R+ trainer recommends exchanging stolen items for a reward. That way, if the steal something they don't take off and chew it, they just bring it to you!

Awe she’s beautiful puppies will take time. It will get better. Just keep it on a strict routine. I’ve had dogs all of my life and I’ve been in Rescue for over 30 years with dogs and cats. I am here to tell you that every dog or cat is different and they have their own personality, you will learn her and she will learn you❤️❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾🐶🐶🐶

Yes, having a puppy is so much work! I would love more videos of you training her. She is beautiful. In sure she'll calm down with time.

Having a puppy is so hard. But rewarding once you get through the puppy and teenage phase. Good luck with everything. Keep at the consistency and routine. That’s key.

We haven't had a puppy for many years, so haven't had to deal with the potty training aspect recently. But the dog-before-last, who was a one year old Alaskan Malamute, almost tested us to the length of our patience. Well not really, nobody in this family gives a pet away no matter how problematic it is. But it was a trial. In the first place, when we visited him at the shelter, and then got him home, he seemed very well behaved, if a little stand-offish. But after a few days, he didn't seem to be feeling well, and we moved up the vet appointment to have him checked out. Turned out he had something called "kennel cough" so he was, in fact, sick. There was nothing else wrong with him, so they gave us some meds for him and sent us home. Three days on the meds and suddenly it was a completely different dog. He was into everything, he tore apart everything, he was over 100lbs so he was almost impossible for us to control. He had terrible separation anxiety at first, and while we were at work, he basically ate our house. *All* the first floor furniture was torn apart, including every cushion on every sofa or chair. We were advised to crate train him, but when we put him in the crate while we were at work, we'd come home and he'd have torn the crate apart. (Reinforcing it with a bunch of hooks helped that problem) The cats could tell he couldn't get out of the crate and they used to torment him by sauntering past it to rub it in. He was not a howler tho - in fact we think he might have been punished for barking in his past; I ended up having to get down on the floor and teach him to howl. My mother was going to sell tickets so people could watch. Eventually he became convinced that when we left we would be coming back, so we could buy more furniture. He turned out to be the *best* dog - it just took a couple months to get there. We named him Worf - a favorite Star Trek character, but also I wanted him to have a name he could pronounce. He lived to be 17, which is pretty good for a big dog.

We have a year old golden retriever. The first month she was with us we thought “what the hell did we do.” It was so exhausting. You’re right though, during that time my floor was soooo clean… literally mopped and vacuumed daily, sometimes multiple times a day 😆. After the first month it was pretty smooth and she settled in super nice. Made me never want to get a puppy again though.

We had a terrible time with our dachshund when we first got him. I though I would go crazy. Then the vet told me. After he eats he goes straight outside and otherwise he was in the kernel or tied to me. Which I hated but he couldn't sneak away and get into stuff or have an accident. Luckily it really didn't take long. I'm still ready to send him to a trainer to work on a free things. They are ridiculously stubborn dogs. Navi is really a cutie and I'm sure you will have it figured out in no time.

She is trying so hard.

Birds are definitely smarter🤣

A video would be good on the training. We have a puppy too. Fun but soooo much work.

She is the best! Having a new puppy is so fun, and SO hard!
