June channel update

Hi everyone, just a few little updates on how things are going at the moment!

The last month was a big one for the channel view-wise, with three pretty strong videos fairly close together (Town Hall & State Library/Bus Replacements/Sunshine SuperHub). Things were also helped along by Reece Martin from RMTransit uploading what is essentially an ad for my channel: For those that don't know, Reece has stopped making regular videos, but he's taking the time to promote some smaller creators and has generously allowed some people including myself to make promotional videos to run on his channel. You can watch it here if you're interested: https://youtu.be/XaSANHwwpn8?si=ND7532TnCzbEx3Ls
The most surprising analytic to come out of this was a huge spike in views on my Skitube video, which I mention for like 2 seconds in the promo, but wasn't actually linked to - so people were obviously curious enough to search for it.

The Adelaide suburban fleet video is still coming along - not too long to go now. I've sort of been coming and going from this one, but the main thing that's made it take a long time is that it's started getting very long - at the current rate I expect it will be in the vicinity of 30 minutes. I've got a number of other people providing images and footage for it (probably more than any other video). The above picture shows me reading the chapter about the 3000/3100 class in the Comeng history book next to the outside fireplace (despite appearances I'm not putting the book in the fire). Note that my (my landlord's) fireplace has a piece of light tramway rail along the front!

The Belgrave/Lilydale video is also progressing, but it will be a very long journey. I'm planning to spend a day out filming for it this week, and the script is coming along nicely. I certainly can't estimate a completion date for this, it will be a while, but I know how much people enjoy these videos so it's always going to be a priority.

I'm trying to make a few more shorter videos to upload in-between the more major ones, stuff like the E class tram rescue video, and even the Sunshine video sort of falls into this category (it was a quick response to a current event). As I'm sure you've all noticed I don't have an upload schedule, and I don't plan on having one - but I do want to try to avoid really long gaps between videos. This is partly because I like to give everyone something to watch, but it's also a practical thing - I do rely on this channel for the majority of my income, and regular uploads keep the lights on and food on the table at Taitset HQ!

One video that semi falls into the above category is something I'm putting together about the logistics of chasing a steam special (using public transport) which I filmed recently. Ideally I'll be uploading that pretty soon.

Anyway, thankyou as always for your generous support - you're all legends!

~Martin

Oh thankyou! I'm going to try to get as much footage myself as I can, but if I need to fill in any gaps towards the end I'll definitely keep the offer in mind. :)

Do you need any help with the Belgrave/Lilydale line? I’m out in Ringwood and work in Richmond so my daily commute is a big chunk of the line & I’m happy to spend that time grabbing footage!

Good question, I haven't really thought about that. I think I would do Stony Point, probably as a separate video.

Hey Martin I remember you saying that you plan to do every line in Melbourne long line video now does that include the Stony point line. Or would you do the Frankston line and stony point line in one video?

@Amazing Stephen Ochsenbein

Also Martin for the Belgrave lilydale video I think it’ll be really funny if you don’t cover East Richmond station if you do that’s totally fine but it would be really funny and makes sense not to cover it. You can say. “ we now pass through East Richmond but since Belgrave Lilydale trains don’t stop there we will not be covering that in our video “ .

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the chasing steam by pt video, as I've done plenty of that in my time.
