[EARLY VIDEO] Werribee Christmas and a Williamstown New year!
Added 2024-12-24 21:00:05 +0000 UTCHi everyone - It's finally done! This has been by far the longest and most complex scripted video I've ever made and.. I'm pretty pleased with it.
As a special Christmas treat I'm giving you this one a whole 6 days early - I'll make it live to the public on the afternoon of New Years Eve. I'm planning on running it as a premiere then, (probably around 4pm AEDT for anyone cool enough to be heading out partying). Please note that once I set up the premiere I don't think you'll be able to watch the video from this link for a few hours - I won't set it up until around lunch time on the 31st. A funny twist here is that there's a line in the video where I carelessly described 2025 as 'next year,' which will be accurate for a few hours at least!
It's been a real journey putting this one together - not least a physical one, with something like 8-10 dedicated trips over to the west to get footage and observations.
I ran up against a few unexpected technical difficulties over the last couple days relating to my very dated PC hardware - I ended up having to render it out on a friend's computer. Might be finally time for an upgrade.

Yes it's definitely something I'd like to make a video about eventually! You've basically got it - all new alignment with 160km/h running right up to Deer Park, then separating the bit from there to the city from the Sunbury line.

It seems very interesting, looks like it was built just at the edge of the suburban development area. Completely new rail ROWs in the modern era are very rare, especially for such a long distance. I would love to know more about the story of it being proposed and built, and what it was like for the V/Line service to be taken away from the Metro tracks.

Just to clarify, by 'Geelong Metro' I meant the idea that the Liberals took to the last state election about using the Sprinters to create a commuter rail network for Geelong, with Werribee as one end of line, Bannockburn and Colac as the others.

2024-12-29 12:31:30 +0000 UTCIt would be handy if there were still lots of Werribee terminating trains, less so if it's a simple matter of extending Werribee trains to Geelong. My personal opinion is that once electrification starts getting out that far we should really be running proper electric interurban/intercity trains like NSW does, rather than pushing the current suburban style operation out over long distances.

I just tried generating the list again and you name is on it, so it's working now at least. I have had one other case recently where a name was missed and I couldn't figure it out - hopefully a bug that gets fixed and not something I've stuffed up. I will triple check you make it on next time. :)

2024-12-26 04:49:37 +0000 UTCWish I had time to go down the Werribee line while in Melbourne, use to go down it all the time as part of Geelong line. Maybe one day be part of the Geelong line again depending on what plan they settle on for electrification of the Tarneit area and get more tracks into the city. They are at a train every 3 min for the non electric/Vline between Sunshine and the city (20 per hour) Depends if they try and increase that with 3 lines merging. Something tells me if the suburban runs back to Werribee that will free up capacity. And hope you had a good Christmas and new year period. Choo Choo
