The Shadow Realm is a parallel plane of existence. The Eternal Darkness has altered life in this place. What thrives here is not necessarily evil, but to those accustomed to the sun, every form of life that can exist in this hostile environment seems harsh and cruel. Many myths surround this place. Adventurers find treasures here or meet an early death. Cultures lay their dead to rest in this place, and those who wish to remain hidden seek refuge in this darkness. Whatever one seeks here, it is a dangerous, relentless place full of pitfalls and horrors.

Modular Approach

This mountain pass is intentionally kept very modular. It could be used in a campaign as cursed land, or to represent the dark side of the Fey Wild. The Monster Lair could be the goal of a quest, and the Ruined Gate is the perfect spot for an ambush, or a long rest. The mountains are intentionally designed as a linear path, allowing your players to traverse from front to back to complete their quest, or to arrive at their destination after a strenuous day of adventuring.
