"Needed some backup, did you Kalen?" Dmitri mocks, "Can't handle me all on your own?"
Kalen's face darkens. He opens his mouth to retort but the other man raises his right hand in a quelling motion. Kalen huffs but says nothing.

I had three words come to mind when I was writing that: scoff, huff, and snort. I think of "snort" as more a response to a joke - a suppressed laugh. "Scoff" didn't sound appropriate either. Ah well.

2023-12-17 19:56:52 +0000 UTCNow to huff is kinda a gay-ish reaction to someone, not manly. But to snort is much more manly for a man to do. So that shows the type of guy this Kalen is.... He looks all manly but he has splints for his wrists!!!
