Hello Delvers!
I've finished A Torch in the Dark! Since version 0.1 came out in... the end of March? Oh god, that feels like forever ago. Uh, ahem, okay.
Anyway! This version is almost a complete overhaul. The core idea remains the same. It's a single-player RPG where you delve into the crypts and catacombs beneath the Imperial capital of Kynburgh. The People's Revolution has secured the city, but as Emperor Titan Kyne died he cursed the land and all who deposed him. Now that death-curse has animated the old Lords in their tombs and plunged all of Kynburgh into darkness. Now you must reclaim their hoarded wealth, twice-kill the undead Lords, and secure the future of the Revolution.
It's still based on the Blades in the Dark system. There are distinct phases of play (delves and downtime) and you roll pools of d6's and keep the highest to determine results. The big differences from the previous version is in character creation and the dungeon delve. Instead of having action ratings you now have a list of skills and items which you use to populate your dice pool. Instead of rolling d6's to generate a random dungeon each run, you use a deck of darks to generate specific encounters which change based on the 9 dungeons in the book. I wrote about... 450 encounters for this game? Oof.
It's been a fund side-project as I revise Neon Black and I'm really happy with it. I was able to find a lot of public domain art to make it look more enticing, and I spent a lot of time in Affinity Publisher trying to make it look good. Also I think that cover art is pretty darn good.
So, what's next? I really want to have a new version of Neon Black ready by the end of the year, so I'm going to start rewriting the entire manuscript soon based on all the notes and changes I've made so far (right now Neon Black exists as some Google Sheets and a long list of notes). I've also committed to having a first draft of my monster flora supplement for Monster Care Squad done by the end of the year. That's all that is definitive at the moment.
Though I can't help but think of giant robots these days...
Thanks again folks! All $10 plus patrons should still have access to a copy of A Torch in the Dark via my itch store. I'll resend the link just in case.
