Neon Black 4.2 and other projects
Added 2019-07-27 04:36:40 +0000 UTCHey folks!
A few days ago I released the latest update of Neon Black, 4.2. You can check out the change log on the itch.io site, it's mostly small rules clarifications and edits. I'm in the midst of testing the game right now and there will be more updates in the future.
For those of you backing at $10 or above you should have access to the latest updated version by visiting the itch.io link I sent you earlier. If you have any problems getting the latest version of the game please let me know.
Right now I'm working on a few new games that ought to be available in the next month or so.
The first is something I started soon after I finished World Maker. I wanted to see if I could make a robust game system that could run a variety of RPG settings. I'm calling it the Agnostic Solo Game right now (working title). Basically I want to design a system that allows a single player to play through a variety of stories and settings. It will have a setting agnostic rule-set, where you have rules for playing each session and guiding your protagonist through different challenges. You'll then be able to plug in different setting books, like RPG modules, to tell very different stories. So far the game rules are very much inspired by systems like Ironsworn, Apocalypse World, and Blades in the Dark.
My plan with this system right now is to release the basic ruleset for free and charge $5 for each setting module. The rule book will come with one sample setting, as well as instructions for creating your own.
Bit of an ambitious project, but I'm curious to see if I make it work.
I've also found another itch.io game jam that I'll be participating in: the Hot Horror Jam. Like it says on the tin, it's a jam for creating tabletop and LARP games about things that are hot and horrifying, however each participant interprets that. I've lately been trying to wrap my head around how to tell a story about the looming threat of climate change and well, I think this might be a good outlet.
I've also got some short story ideas on the burner, maybe some I'll be submitting for publication. I'll let you know when these ideas are more fully formed.
As always, all my patrons will get access to prototypes of my games once they're at that stage, and $5+ patrons will get a free code for the Hot Horror game once it's done. $10+ patrons can look forward to a pack of 3 story modules for my setting agnostic single player game. I'm aiming to get those released next month.
