Hey everyone!
Its been a long time coming but finally there's progress on the main SRP track. Admittedly, its a tiny update but it is a significant one, as it marks our first venture away from the expressways and into the city streets. Of course, what better place to start than the famous Shibuya Crossing itself.
Progress has been slow since last version. This update took way longer than I'd like, for two main reasons: First, it was the first time we've made a completely new area and it was different from what we are used to, away from the highway. It was hard but also interesting to come up with all new ways to create these places. We used a variety of new data sources like OpenStreetMaps and Google Photogrammetry, as well as old aerial/satellite photos from 2007 and old Street View. Then, it was because the limited manpower, either because of people working on other projects or just not being available to work on anything at all! Personally, I (John) was trapped away from the SRP files for many months during the start of the pandemic and then had further time off because of IRL things I needed to do.
Now, for people who haven't heard of a "Public Testing Build" (PTB) before, that's what we call our preview releases. Think of them as alpha versions or early access. They are still playable but not as optimized or feature complete as the actual release versions. You are free to download this version to have fun but since this is mostly to find bugs and collect performance data, we will not be providing any tech support for this version of the track.

Areas
• Added Shibuya Crossing, Shibuya Station and surrounding area. Gameplay• Added some missing barriers for wrong way exits.
Visuals
• Further improvements to materials and textures throughout the track.
• New model for Tokyo tower with more 3D detail and lights that can be seen from afar.
• New illumination for Rainbow bridge that can be seen from afar. Early support for special illuminations. • Fixed some of graphical issues. • Many lighting and track config fixes. • The "far plane" tweak is no longer needed. Mt. Fuji and other distant terrain now uses CSP's distance compression feature. Please reset it if you have changed it in the past. • Ongoing fix for building materials looking faded and blurry from a distance at night. A lot are fixed already with others to follow.
Misc
• New VAO, taking advantage of the Pure weather engine's features. Lighting in tunnels during the day vastly improved.
Performance
• No performance improvements on this PTB version.
Known bugs
• Colorful lights on Rainbow Bridge not there yet.
• Some broken UVs on the first Bayshore tunnel.
• LODs got reset in some areas.
• Some materials might have wrong values.
• There's a piece of road in the turnaround of Shibuya that is glitched and has some weird humps. • Some bridges do not cast VAO shadows.
• VAO artifacts in the pavements in Shibuya.
• Minimap is still not updated.
FAQ
• Q: Do I need to delete the older version? A: Only if you still have a PTB from last time for some reason.
• Q: How do I install this? A: Drag and drop should work. If not, you know what to do.
• Q: Did we really wait one year for THIS? A: Yes.
• Q: Is it me or does this run worse than 0.9.1? A: Yeah it might do, a lot of the LOD values were reset and we're deciding if we will redo them like 0.9.1 or merge some objects and do it later. Expect performance to improve as new PTBs come out.
