It's time for one of the more impactful newsletter issues in a while. We've gotten some serious engineering done with craniofacial anatomy in the Anatomy Reengineering Framework, and have also crystallized the most essential long-term technical decisions a la the Technical Roadmap that we have teased for over a year now!
Lathreas wrote the first article, the ARF update. A lot of this revolves around one of the more challenging aspects of craniofacial modifications for anthros - positioning the eyes appropriately and anticipating methods to potentially lengthen the optic nerves. Unlike the braincase shape constraints we were previously concerned about (but happily resolved), the optic nerves are relatively simpler (i.e. they're "just" cables). But they'll still be challenging!
I wrote the second article, discussing some of the story and rationale behind our technical roadmap. And this includes where we started - the 2018 whitepapers - as well as some silly choices we made along the way, like trying to write hundreds of pages of should/shall/must statements. But we got to something that we are comfortable with. It's actionable, and we are aiming for IRL anthros/furries reaching patients within 30 years. (And you can take that to the bank!)
