BOOK CLUB: Questions for Galaxy in Flames and First & Only

Hiya. So, we're doing the next book club session tomorrow, recording episodes on two books Mira has been reading for her channel - the third Horus Heresy novel Galaxy in Flames and the first Gaunt's Ghosts novel First and Only.

Any questions or thoughts? Enjoying the depiction of loyalists being SOUPED? Vaguely remember who Delane Oktar is? Who knows!

Drop your questions or comments here, stating which book it's for, and we'll address them on the recording.

And then, once we've recorded, we'll post the next Book Club POLL!!

Comments

Galaxy in Flames - First off I'd like to apologize to Mira for this book introducing her to virus bombs (unless it's been in another book already). Secondly - which of the non primarch space marines you’ve seen so far- who would you f*ck, marry, kill? (Replace f with date if that'll be more appropriate) Finally - of the characters you've seen so far, who are the ones you'd love to see and explore more of and who have you had your fill of?

What are Mira’s predictions for those characters that managed to survive the trilogy?

Jack Pitman-Wallace

I haven't even finished it yet:(

How well characterised are the traitors in Horus Heresy so far? Are there any traitors whose motivations Mira can sympathise with? I feel like with some they are evil from the get go, because we know that's how they end up, but with others I found myself much more invested in why they fall to the dark side.

Hey, a twofer! :) gonna split it into two hour-long parts and have one on each channel…? Would be interesting to know if any 40K moments have ever made you shed a tear since we’re talking about the Ghosts and the saddest heresy book…? No spoilers for future ghost content though ;) Also did you think Loken was dead on your first read and should he have stayed dead…? (Think you already told Mira he’s there during the siege?)

My thoughts whenever I do my half decade reread of the Gaunt book series (especially as a military historian) are on how much the early Gaunt books read like classic Second World War infantry combat especially Necropolis which has very strong similarities to Stalingrad for me - especially the apocalyptic final act with the ferry’s being bombed and the city slowly falling How much do you think 40K has moved away from that to discover its own identity twenty years later where it often felt like a historical wargame that’s been genre shifted into sci fi even down to the fiction

What did Mira think about the characters in first and only? Were there any she particularly liked and why?
