Ok, standby for a ton of pre-release videos on Patreon as I prep my way towards the 10ed release with a load of NIDDEOS!

Hive Fleet BEHEMOTH - The First Tyrannic War

Arbitor Ian thank you for this, it is the highly competent and comprehensive lore video that you have made the new standard online. I haven't read much Tyranid lore since the 2nd edition codex came out a few years back. If you do another 40K Narrative Tier List video anytime soon please put the Tyranids near the bottom. The 'nids have inspiring miniatures, exciting lore, and beautiful GW art, but I have always seen them as the ultimate mindless NPC race of 40K. Ages ago in the (what was it?) third or forth edition 40K rulebook there was a campaign for Phoenix Island between Orks and Imperials. The campaign featured a nifty map with all the different battle locations in and around the island and suggested which missions you could play to represent the battles waged there. It was a nice example of a node-based campaign. To me it really demonstrated that the Orks, while inarticulate savages, could participate in a traditional campaign between two sentient factions. I see the Tyranids as having much less narrative potential. Other factions can fight to capture, defend, or destroy vital assets like ammo dumps, landing fields, artillery batteries, water supplies, promethium refineries, etc, etc. But the Tyranids don't need and may or may not even understand the value of such targets. Clearly, a clever writer or game master can come up with engaging missions and campaigns involving the Tyranids, but at base I see them as much more limited in this capacity. The Drukhari and the Necrons, for different reasons, are similar in this regard.
