I think Kier and his cult see emotions as a negative or dangerous thing-- I think there was a Kier quote at some time calling them a weakness?-- so getting rid of all emotions is maybe their goal. maybe she's scared of the dentist or has past trauma related, and the loss of the baby is sadness, etc so they are carefully picking her emotions out of her body. it makes sense that they'd need Mark because he knew her so seeing her emotions in the form of data on a screen he might instinctively recognize them in some way, but why the other three? I'm wondering if they ALSO have people they have lost that are not really dead, but are being kept in Lumon and they are helping delete THEIR emotions.-- but if that was true they couldn't fire them, so that theory might not work.

I think Gemma and Mark got involved with Lumon and the doctor that works there through Gemma's fertility treatments simply because Lumon runs everything. I think the doctor became obsessed with Gemma, maybe thinking he was in love with her or something, and he targeted her for his experiments. I think HE brought her in for his own purposes, and they are targeting and deleting her memories as they are linked to her emotions about those memories, in the end I think he hopes for a clean slate version of her to belong to him. The doctor is really enmeshed in Lumon, maybe he's even an Eagan himself, so they just let him do what he wants. I also suspect that they might have taken Mark and Gemma's child-- maybe through IVF and there's a baby somewhere in the building that belongs to them. Someone once said maybe it's Ms Huang, but the age makes no sense, I think Ms Huang is just an intern from the girls' school that was placed there. But the baby thing ties into the introduction-- most of the intro visuals eventually show up in the plot somehow, so a little Lumon Baby that lives there being raised by the company to be some weird perfect Kier child is exactlythe type of weird crap they'd try to do.
