Questions Video for January (A little late)

Hi team! We're wrapping up Berlin Fashion Week directly after Paris Fashion Week Mens. Flying home tomorrow to prepare 2 megavideos before we head back to Paris for womens week.

This video was intended for January, we're still getting a workflow down with some changes to process. Rest assured, you're getting a February video as well along with some great exclusive interviews!

We couldn't do this without you all, thank you for your continued support. It truly means the earth to us.

I have a couple questions: First, I can’t seem to make the discord invite thing work…I have discord and feel super old lady, but…is it broken or is it me? Second, Bliss or anyone here have you heard about TWO Ontario museums that are teetering on closing or closing altogether within DAYS - the Textile Museum and the Fashion History Museum! Wth?! Both are incredible and do great work showcasing and archiving textiles and wearables.

Cat Regime

Curious what your entire list of recommended fashion books is. I've seen you mention a couple and I'm always on the lookout. Would love a compiled list.

The best compliment I’ve ever gotten about my personal style was “all those things you’re wearing look like they wouldn’t look good together but they do”

Eunika

Parental $ support of artistic endeavours is INTEGRAL! If that didn’t happen we would have half the artists we do today bc food, shelter etc.

Cat Regime

Best fashion advice I've ever recieved is "you don't have to listen to idiots" <3

VvEye

cant believe you married the voice from watchmojo

Loic Bernier

We need Daniella's wardrobe tour in the presentation of Bliss and a narration of Daniella.❤️

Anyone got discord link?

Bernardo Torres

Your analysis on fashion content really hits home how hard it is to get into this stuff in the first place. If the public facing outlets don't have any hard points and just throwing spaghetti at the wall; what hope does a normie have in getting any substance for the content they are getting unless it's to reinforce their biases? This means that unless there is a life changing world event, i.e.. a world lockdown, there is no reason for most people to dive into the details of fashion and expand their horizon.

on my third comment now lol but I love what you’re saying about “flattering” as a concept. It totally locks us all into one boring style, like it’s so cool to be able to manipulate the shape of your body and how people see it. I’m begging people to look at the shapes from the 60s cause everyone looked incredible and sometimes it was just a straight up cone shaped dress.

as a former shopping addict, I would suggest trying to force yourself to only buy quality items and even spending time making lists of like “dream purchases” which can include things that are like impossible to get or just things you want that are like “I want this $15 pen that’s nicer than what I’d usually get” it allows you to have the gratification of looking and thinking about getting it one day but not getting it and waiting for a special occasion to buy or ask for the item. It can also help to spend a lot of time on like vogue runway cause it’s like “wow i want those clothes” but they quite literally are not available. Also making rules like “I will spend max $200 on things that aren’t necessary” helps.

begging for a Daniella closet tour video/series. Obviously she doesn’t have to talk for it ik she’s shy but i would love to see some of her cool clothes

Mary Kennedy

Amazing! Can't wait!

Itamar Elran

Well do a library tour at some point 💫💫

Bliss Foster

This video just further confirms I absolutely would watch Daniella’s closet tour video/videos. Wonderful commentary; love yall 🖤

Jo

I know there are some older videos on the subject, but do you have a more updated list of book recommendations?

Itamar Elran

Loved the takes on personal style. Thanks for this format 🙏🏾

i'm a video editor and i can't help noticing that the color of video is well saturated than others. Everything looks more vibrant and i really enjoy watching. thank you! can't wait for PFW!

Realising that my clothes don’t need to be ‘flattering’ (and that my body didn’t need to look a certain way) really opened my horizons to so many different ways of dressing. Also, ‘be nice to people, because you never know who they’ll become’ should really be ‘be nice to people because they’re people’.

I heard the story of what Daniella's business used to be, but to anybody who doesn't know that the phrase "when you were flipping plants" will sound so weird 😂

Today, and for quite some time now, social and economic currency do not behave the same way. Of course there’s still remnants of the old ways, but there are newer possibilities than ever before. We exist in a time where you can sit in front of a computer and talk on a streaming platform and jump from working class to the 1% because of it. That’s an off-topic example, but we see the same thing with fashion. A great example would be Bloody Osiris and Bloody Dior. These are people who built up their social capital using their own taste and exchanged it for economic capital and more social capital as tastemakers. Apologies if this came off like rambling. I’m typing this quickly and secretly at work lol. I think we desperately need to reevaluate how and through what lens we speak about fashion and taste. (2/2)

I love Derek Guy as well, but I do disagree with his take on good taste. I think discourse around fashion (as art) has been poisoned by Fashion (as capitalism/class). Just as often as we have seen trickle-down Fashion, we’ve seen bubble-up fashion. For example, grunge was a street fashion movement that got co-opted by Marc Jacobs, thus “becoming” Fashion. Gosha Rubchinskiy - as a business - did the same thing with Eastern European street culture fashion. I don’t accept that taste or fashion only becomes “good” once it reaches the upper class (socially and economically). I think to believe that is to forfeit one’s social power, and social power is extremely relevant. A lot of the way people speak about fashion (STILL!) comes from monarchistic European societies from hundreds of years ago. Social and economic capital were directly linked to bloodlines and nepotism. Social mobility was virtually impossible, therefore economic mobility was virtually impossible as well. (1/2)

What a great way to start the week! Thanks Daniella and Bliss <3

The not falling for a trend answer is spot on. It has to be near universal to get cycled into and then out of a trend because eventually the trendy color is the color you wear the most or something.

Yesss can't wait for all pfw and bfw videos love you bliss+daniella
