Margiela - Fall 1994

Margiela - Fall 1994

I think this is the collection that is most reminiscent of my knowledge of Maison Martin Margiela. Although, I wished I watched your video prior to watching John Galliano and Nick Knight’s video for Maison Margiela Artisanal Co-Ed Collection A/W 2020: S.W.A.L.K. I wish there was a way for me to post a photo of it, but there was a moment during the conversation between the collective of Maison Margiela, imagist Nick Knight, and make-up artist Pat McGrath-- wherein John broke drown the nucleus of the Maison into a pyramid. This pyramid diagram brought together all the elements you’ve mentioned so far from the first video to this current one (especially all of the aspects you spoke of with this current video) into a chart that breaks down the elements that bring together what we know of as Maison Martin Margiela. Quick side note though-- I think that Galliano at the helm of the newly renamed Maison Margiela will bring a form of haute couture to the design house that will be akin to Chanel’s Metiers d’Art collection, and that’s exciting. In S.W.A.L. K., he references himself referencing Martin while they touched base on the “Wet Look” for the collection. Martin might have made the backward blazer in the early ‘90s, but it was John Galliano’s (for Christian Dior) backward suit, worn by Celine Dion for the 1999 Oscars, that brought attention to this silhouette to the masses. In that same regard, I think he will further bring the name Maison Margiela to a whole new range of consumers that would not have otherwise known this brand.

This is awesome, I'm opening the book at the same point - the dolls collection is so iconic. Awesome video!!
