I'm hiring for art-related roles
Added 2025-06-02 21:21:01 +0000 UTCMy new TTRPG publishing company, Eidolon Publishing, is hiring for four positions (though we’d love to fill multiple positions with one candidate): an art director, a brand manager, a layout designer, and a graphic designer! Full details below.
Responsibilities.
Art Director: As our art director, you’d coordinate our commissioned artists, cartographers, and similar vendors to deliver art pieces and maps according to specifications and deadlines provided by other members of the Eidolon creative team. You’d also be responsible for curating the overall look and feel of our products, including artwork, battle maps, printable PDFs, and the look and feel of our web application interfaces (though you wouldn’t do any UI design yourself). You would report to me. If we have a layout designer, they would report to you.
Brand Manager: As our brand manager, you’d oversee our company’s visual identity, including color choices, fonts, and layout designs. You’d create and maintain our visual brand bible, and curate the overall look and feel of our marketing and other public-facing visuals, including advertisements, social media graphics, Kickstarter imagery, company website, and (eventually) videos (though you wouldn’t need to do any video production yourself). You would report to me. If we have a graphic designer, they would report to you.
Layout Designer: As our layout designer, you’d lay out adventure manuscripts using Adobe InDesign or similar software to create professional-quality printable PDFs of our products. You’d report to our art director.
Graphic Designer: As our graphic designer, you’d create all of the company’s outward-facing imagery, including marketing graphics, social media graphics, video assets, and more. You’d need experience in image-editing tools, like Canva or Photoshop, and experience in digital illustration is strongly preferred. You’d report to our brand manager.
If you’re hired as an art director or brand manager and are assigned a direct report, you’d receive additional management training to help you assume that position.
Hours. You’d be working remotely on a part-time basis for 4-8 hours per week (though this might increase in busier periods); aside from regular check-in meetings with your supervisor and team, you’d set your own hours each week.
Compensation. As I’ve previously mentioned, our funds are currently extremely limited. Once we have a sufficient revenue stream from our Kickstarter campaigns and Patreon, we intend to pay you at an anticipated rate of $35 per hour (if you’re a layout designer or graphic designer), $40 per hour (if you’re an art director or brand manager), or more if you’re also a supervisor (though I'd love to increase these as soon as we can afford to). Until then, you’ll be able to earn equity in the business for your work through a dynamic equity system that reflects your contributions over time.
Qualifications. You should apply to these positions if:
Art Director: You’re a strong project manager, can build and maintain ongoing relationships with artists and other vendors, and (ideally, though not necessarily) have previous experience in creative direction, visual production, or a similar area.
Brand Manager: You have strong opinions about what looks good and what doesn’t, you know how to curate clean, evocative visuals with a unified style and feel, and you (ideally, though not necessarily) have previous experience in visual brand design or a similar area.
Layout Designer: You know what kerning and visual hierarchies are, you have strong opinions about vertical and horizontal padding, you know how Wizards of the Coast creates that cool “inkblot” border around their graphics, and you know how to use professional layout software like Adobe InDesign.
Graphic Designer: You’re comfortable using basic graphic design tools like Canva, as well as more powerful tools like Photoshop, and you (preferably) have digital illustration skills.
All: You’re comfortable meeting deadlines, can clearly and promptly communicate your availability and bandwidth, and are comfortable taking feedback.
How to Apply. To apply, fill out this application by Saturday, June 14. If we decide to move forward with your application, we’ll follow up to schedule a 45- to 60-minute Discord interview.
I look forward to reading your applications!
Cheers,
Dragna
