I'm hiring D&D writers & game designers
Added 2025-05-10 23:41:43 +0000 UTCAs I’ve previously mentioned, once Curse of Strahd: Reloaded wraps up this month (yes, this month!), I’ll be launching a new adventure publishing company to produce more fun, satisfying, low-prep campaigns for DMs to use—starting with a Lost Mine of Phandelver: Reloaded Kickstarter this summer. And although Phandelver isn’t starting full production just yet, I want to get ahead of the curve and start hiring staff writers and game designers to help build out our writing and design team.
As a staff writer, you’d join two other staff writers to build scenes, NPCs, locations, and lore using notes that I give you.
As a game designer, you’d work under me to implement, playtest, and balance encounters, stat blocks, magic items, and other game mechanics.
Both staff writers and game designers would be eligible to eventually receive additional training in game and narrative design; should you master those skills and gain experience in both positions, you would be eligible to eventually be promoted to arc lead, working directly under me to oversee the development of entire campaign arcs.
Hours. You’d be working remotely on a part-time basis; aside from a regular check-in meeting, you’d set your own hours each week. As a staff writer, you’d be expected to produce around 1-2 thousand words per week; as a game designer, you’d be expected to work around 2-6 hours a week.
Compensation. As I’ve previously mentioned, our funds are currently extremely limited. Once our first Kickstarter launches this summer, we’ll use that revenue to pay our writers and game designers at an anticipated rate of $35 per hour, though I’d like to raise this rate in future projects if we can afford it. Until then, you’ll be able to earn equity in the business for your work through a dynamic equity system.
Qualifications. You should apply if:
You love to write or build stories or games,
You have excellent writing and communication skills (including excellent spelling and grammar),
You’re able to hit deadlines consistently, and promptly communicate clear expectations when you can’t,
You’re comfortable with receiving constructive criticism,
You’re able to adopt a “house style” and voice when writing or designing,
You’re comfortable with creative, professional, and/or technical writing,
You have a deep interest in narrative or game design (especially in TTRPGs), and
You have significant experience DMing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.
To apply, you can fill out this application by May 24. If I decide to move forward with your application, we’ll meet on Discord for a 30- to 45-minute interview.
Thank you in advance to all who apply! I look forward to reading your applications.
Comments
I would truly love to apply for the position; unfortunately, I only noticed it just now. It would be a tremendous pleasure to collaborate on creating deep, engaging Dungeons & Dragons content.
