I'm hiring for my new D&D publishing company
Added 2025-01-04 21:34:37 +0000 UTCWhen Curse of Strahd: Reloaded wraps up this year, I’m launching a new adventure publishing group to produce more fun, satisfying, low-prep campaigns for DMs to use—starting with a Lost Mine of Phandelver: Reloaded Kickstarter this summer, and continuing into both Reloaded and homebrew campaigns beyond that.
Our current team includes me (CEO/Content Manager), a Finance Manager, and an Operations Manager. But before we start hiring writers and artists, we need three more members to help make this venture work:
Business Manager. Someone who can help us figure out our business strategy (e.g., how to monetize free, open-access campaigns), and who can help find and build partnerships with other D&D/TTRPG creators.
Community Manager. Someone who can help us figure out our marketing strategy, advertise what we're doing via social media, and keep our readers updated on what we're working on via email and Discord.
Web Manager. Someone who can help us build and maintain our website (likely starting as an Obsidian Publish website, like Curse of Strahd: Reloaded).
Hours. You'd be working remotely and part-time (usually 2-6 hours a week, but up to 8-10 hours a week during product launches), and, aside from a weekly check-in meeting, setting your own hours. You'd report to me as CEO, but you'd have full independence to figure out and decide how you want to do your assignments. If you'd like, you can also receive additional training from me in narrative and game design, and take on extra (compensated) work as an adventure writer or artist.
Compensation. I'll be honest—I'm not able to pay anyone a salary from this business right now (least of all myself). Once the business launches, our Kickstarter and Patreon revenue will first go toward (1) paying our writers and artists, and (2) covering our operating costs (e.g., website hosting, marketing budget). Your salary will come from what's left over (with you getting paid before me)—and while that probably won't be much to start, my goal is to start paying you some kind of hourly salary within 6-12 months after we launch. Once we can afford to pay them in full (which will rely on how fast we can grow), we're estimating salaries for these roles at roughly $40/hr (USD),
Once you join, however, you will immediately start earning equity in the business through your work (using a points-per-hour dynamic equity system). Once the business becomes profitable, you'll get quarterly payouts (in addition to your salary) proportional to the amount of equity you've earned.
Team. As mentioned above, our existing team includes myself (CEO/Content Manager), a Finance Manager, and an Operations Manager. While we each have some relevant experience in these areas (e.g., accounting or management), none of us are industry experts—just a group of DMs who are passionate about making DMing fun and easy.
Should You Apply? You should apply if you care about making DMing easier and more fun, if you're okay with the hours and compensation listed above, if you're interested in the kind of work you'd be doing, and if:
Business Manager: You're good at research and strategizing.
Community Manager: You're a good audience-oriented writer and you know how social media works.
Web Manager: You know how websites work, and you're familiar with basic HTML/CSS/JS.
To apply, you can fill out this application by Saturday, January 18. Once you do, you'll hear back from me within a week (and, hopefully, within 24-48 hours). If I decide to move forward with your application, we'll meet on Discord for a 60 to 90-minute one-on-one interview (potentially including one other member of our team). If that interview works out, we'll also do a final 45 to 60-minute Discord interview with myself and the two other members of our leadership team (our Operations Manager and Finance Manager). My goal is to fill these positions by or before February 1.
Thank you in advance to all who apply! I look forward to reading your applications.
Cheers,
Dragna

2025-03-17 20:41:14 +0000 UTCThe most important things we're looking for are a passion and curiosity about the work the role involves, though substantive experience/expertise in those fields are a huge plus. And yes, we'll be recruiting writers over the next few months as well, so stay tuned!

2025-01-11 12:52:43 +0000 UTCHow much experience would someone need for either of the three positions? And will there be a separate application for writers later down the line?

2025-01-10 22:11:40 +0000 UTCApplied myself the other day, great to see how much excitement this already seems to be getting! Regardless of who gets the roles going forward it'll be great to see where things go with these new projects!

2025-01-06 19:45:42 +0000 UTCAfraid not, sorry! I don't know that I'd be legally allowed to do so (due to trademark/IP reasons). I'd like to eventually make a printable PDF available, but readers would need to take that to a local printer (e.g., Staples) to have anything done with it.

2025-01-06 13:16:54 +0000 UTCCan I ask if there's any plans to have a kickstarter for the Curse of Strahd Reloaded in hardback? I'd absolutely love to have it in my collection

2025-01-05 19:26:29 +0000 UTCSweet cthulhu, I just applied for web dev/manager and while filling out the last bit of ideas/proposals, I have a million more coming to mind - and additional challenges we'd need to overcome/implement (such as making it easy to publish content, update, etc, when transitioned to an independent/standalone site/app) and a number of solutions of them to discuss/implement. Brain buzzing.

2025-01-04 23:52:20 +0000 UTCThis is wonderfully exciting news. As a fairly new DM (who has been working in PR and Digital Marketing for 15 years), I may just submit an application! 😍

2025-01-04 21:42:00 +0000 UTCWow! It's amazing to see that the team has a vision for the future and that passion still drives it. I do not think that I would be a useful member to the team, even if it sounds incredibly interesting and in my interests, but I truly hope that you will find peeps as dedicated as you guys! Godspeed to you and looking forward to hearing about the potential new members!
