Poll: Would you back a trio of horror one-shots?
Added 2024-07-26 12:13:01 +0000 UTCI'm currently pondering teaming up with two other writers to publish three one-shot horror adventures; they would write two, while I would write the third and edit/lead development on all three. The goal would be to create modules that, like Reloaded, are zero-prep, ready-to-run, and chock-full of good narrative and game design, including custom monster statblocks, cathartic storylines, and resonant characters.
To fund it, we'd likely run a small Kickstarter to ensure that the other writers (at a minimum) can be paid a fair commission for contributing to the project. Should we raise enough, we'd also be able to include original comissioned artwork by Reloaded's very own Caleb Cleveland. The project itself, if successful, would also be a proof-of-concept for possible larger projects to come in the future, once Reloaded is finished.
Before we dive into Kickstarter, though, we're hoping to gauge interest in the idea itself. If you can, please fill out the poll below and share any additional thoughts in the comments. Thank you!
Cheers,
Dragna
PS: I'm taking a few days to work on a custom automated statblock maker/CR calculator before working on the next Reloaded release, since it'll be a short update and heavily dominated by three two-phase boss battles (Kiril, the Abbot, and Vladimir), which will be vastly easier with the automated tool to help out. My current goal is to launch v2.0.9/Arc Q by August 10th, but preferably sooner. Stay tuned for updates!
PPS: This Kickstarter idea will not substantially slow progress on Reloaded. Editing takes minimal time for me, and I'm a pretty fast writer, too. Reloaded, as per usual, remains my top priority, so fear not.

+1 to backing anything you do. I'd love to see horror adventures where PCs have to realize that sometimes not fighting is the best call. Investigate, don't just smash.

2024-07-27 12:15:12 +0000 UTCI wouldn't hesitate to back something you do.

2024-07-27 04:42:30 +0000 UTCThank you! And I don't see why it wouldn't be substantially compatible with other systems, at least insofar as the narrative and setpieces.

2024-07-26 22:15:19 +0000 UTCI'd likely back just about anything you do, but especially horror. And bonus points if it's compatible with multiple systems (I've promised to run a series of DC20 1 shots in the foreseeable future, so any extra material I don't have to come up with on my own would be great lol) *Edit: not that stat blocks would be compatible really, I guess what I mean is "bonus points for power/character levels that I can easily port to the DC20 system"

2024-07-26 22:06:00 +0000 UTCWow, that's an impressive project! Likely not, unfortunately, but thanks for sharing it!

2024-07-26 21:59:55 +0000 UTCThanks Scarfe! We likely won't be making CoS-compatible content, I'm afraid, but hopefully folks will still enjoy 'em.

2024-07-26 21:59:03 +0000 UTCWe probably won't be making content that's compatible with Curse of Strahd, but hopefully you like how the adventures look anyway!

2024-07-26 21:58:59 +0000 UTCVery fair! It's definitely not high on my priorities list. Right now, I'm hoping to work on Reloaded 15hr/wk, so ideally we'll be seeing real movement forward on the backlog of arcs (Shining Beacon, Tyrant's Trials & Amber Temple) over the next 3-4 weeks.

2024-07-26 21:58:07 +0000 UTCThank you! Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to make them CoS-related due to SRD limitations, but hopefully they'll be enjoyable to run and play nonetheless.

2024-07-26 21:56:33 +0000 UTCI know this is a long shot, but I would 100% back this if one of the adventures used this as a map https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ilustralia3d/the-fall-of-the-house-of-usher

2024-07-26 19:26:45 +0000 UTCBring on the one-shots ! They're a great addition to any campaign because you can different heroes in the same world and do the behind the scenes stuff while the main party do the main Campaign!

2024-07-26 19:16:00 +0000 UTCAbsolutely. Also I love the other ideas mentioned of having these be either set in Barovia, or easily ported into Barovia,

2024-07-26 15:47:02 +0000 UTCLolz I feel the same! We are just finishing Vallaki at this point, but do have a plan to give me a break for a couple months :P

2024-07-26 14:47:26 +0000 UTCI absolutely love listening to live plays of horror runs, and I know you'd do a great job with one! I can't wait to see what you come up with and I hope it works out!

2024-07-26 13:36:17 +0000 UTC100% doesn’t have to be directly CoS related but if it’s something I can just plop into Vallaki or Krezk that be great.

2024-07-26 13:27:27 +0000 UTCI fear my CoS campaign will catch up to what is written so far. I'd be happy if you did it AFTER reloaded was finished

2024-07-26 13:02:23 +0000 UTCBonus points make them very weavable into CoS. I've got some gamer friends who have been wanting to participate in the story but aren't in the primary crew. Would be cool if they were kind of like vignettes or previous attempts. Either way you make great content and I'd love to support you more
