Patreon Video - Ep 02 - Field of Grass

The second episode is here!

I love to explore ways to use 3D, but to sort of hide it and subtly blend it with my 2D approach. In this latest shot for my film I think I found a nice balance for the grass. It doesn't look like a flat texture on a surface and not overly 3D detailed either. I like how it still feels painted but that it allows me to move a camera over it and individually animate it.

I will upload a video on my YouTube showing the same shot but covering more of the general workflow for the scene building.

I have added the Rock model and the grass textures to the Elder texture folder.
If you wanna use the same assets feel free to try.  But I encourage you to also see if you can paint your own ones if you intend to create a similar thing.

Here is a quick link to the Elder asset post:

Cheers everyone!

They are made with trapcode particular (plugin) in After effects. Both the wind lines and the small particles are done using that plugin. Hard to break down exactly how without going into full detail.

hey can i ask a question? how did you add the particle effects?

Amazing look about the grass. Thanks for the awesome breakdown

Thanks Matthew! Also just uploaded the overview video on my YouTube. Looking forward to making episode 3 :).

This is so helpful and detailed. I'm really enjoying this series. Can't wait for episode 3!

Thanks! Yeah the magnet tool is a good friend of mine :).

Great video, the grass looks beautiful! That was an interesting tip about using the Magnet tool too, it looks way smoother than using soft selection or something.

Check the link under the video. I update the drive folder link there. If it didn't work before it should work now :). Just double checked.

Olof - the video is great. Really cool to see how you created the landscape. I'm not finding the rock and grass assets in the drive. Are those available yet?

Thanks Janet!

Looks fantastic!
