Not using refs is one of the most common mistakes that an artist can make!
Sometimes, finding the exact references you need is tough, especially for drawing hands (THEY ARE HARD AF!). One of the options is to use 3D models, but they tend to look stiff, lack of lighting information, and might require more time to learn the 3D software to fix the mentioned problems. So instead of mindlessly noodling based on my poor visual library, it is so much better, faster, and more efficient to just take a picture of myself/friend!

I know what you mean by the 3d models being stiff and it's somewhat a subtle difference if a model is used versus an irl model from a photo. Great job though! The actual references are what can make the pose look real and genuine! I enjoy how the hand holding the phone turned out! 🎉
