Future Project Announcement: The Edge Of – Definitive Edition, and poll: what do you want to see in the new version?

Edit: Guys, read. The sex scenes will already be animated. The vote is for non-important scenes to be animated as well. If that's what you want, then that's fine. But I feel a lot of people vote for something that will already be implemented.

So if you've been part of Patreon for long enough, you should know about my first project, The Edge Of. At the time, since it was my very first NTR project, I had no fans and essentially no money. What happened, mainly, is that I had to commission multiple artists because my first artist had dropped me early in development, and I didn't have the budget to do every scene, and Beth's perspective ended pretty abruptly as a result. While some people liked the overall experience, the game wasn't a success by any means.

Usually, I wouldn't work on a "definitive edition". It hasn’t been that long since it came out, and I feel like the story is kinda rough in some places. But something that really annoys me is that some people think I dropped the project. Beth's perspective stops before the endings, and for some, that's enough to say it was never completed.

So I decided that, now that I have the budget, I should try to do the project justice.

Before anyone thinks it's something crazy or anything, I just want to lay out my perspective first. I mainly want to make the art homogeneous (a single artist), animate the sex scenes, add a few illustrations for less important moments, and, most importantly, write Beth's perspective for both endings.

What I don't want to do is: add more endings or rewrite scenes that are already there. The Edge Of is a complicated story and there are a lot of moving parts. If I had written Drew's perspective, then it would have been easier to rewrite some scenes since I would know exactly what every character is doing. But it's been too long, so I can't quite remember the finer details.

I don't have much to show yet. I started by commissioning one of the artists who was working on the project at some point. I need him to slowly start to redraw the scenes he didn't draw. His style has changed since, but we'll have to make do. It will already cost a lot, so I don't want to trash every single scene, if possible.

Also, I haven't started writing Beth's perspective either. I'm slowly re-reading the thing, and I'm a bit embarrassed by it if I'm being honest. But we'll push through nonetheless. I know some of you really like the story, so I guess it's just me who's being a bit too critical. I'm still kinda scared I won't be able to portray the characters well now that it's been something like 4 years, but who's going to do it if I don't?

Now, why am I announcing it so soon, even though I don't have the assets to release the first version yet and I haven't started writing? Well, because I want to know what you guys want to see in the new version. Which is why we have a poll.

You can vote for multiple options in the poll, BUT keep in mind that I cannot add everything. My budget is limited, and some things cost more than others. You should vote for what you personally want to see in the game. If multiple things have the same amount of votes, I will be the judge of what should be added. So if you vote for "everything", you're the one who's going to be penalized in the end.

Do keep in mind that this is more of me wanting to know what's most requested. Depending on complication, I may have to go against the poll (hopefully not)

The things that are guaranteed are: animated sex scenes, Beth's perspective for both endings, redrawn scenes, and new illustrations for less important moments.

The things that could potentially be added:

Voice acting (Japanese): This would cost a lot of money because we would need to translate it into Japanese as well. I don't mind doing it, in fact, it's the perfect moment to test voice acting since this project is rather small… but if you choose this, not many other cool stuff will be added.

Animated sprites: I would use live2d to animate the sprites, just like in He Maid Her Fall.

New sprites: You might think the sprites are outdated. If you want new sprites, I will use the artist that is currently redrawing the scenes.

Custom backgrounds: Right now, most backgrounds (except for Drew's van) are bought in packs. I could commission someone to draw specific backgrounds for the game. Else, we'll see the same place as in the original.

Animated scenes: All CG illustrations, not just the sex scenes, would be animated.

New OST or additional songs to the old one: This project had a lot of original tracks. I could either add to it, revamp the old soundtrack, or make a completely new one.

Something else?: I might have forgotten a thing or two. If you have an idea, let me know, and if I like it, I might add it.

This project is probably going to cost more than expected. At first, I wanted to just release the entire thing in one go, but it's clear that it would be a mistake to not try to sell it on Steam early access and so on. So who knows? Depending on the new things I need to add, maybe we'll see the first version in the next couple of months. Would be Sam's perspective first though, since it doesn't need that many new assets.
