Added 2020-09-27 03:21:45 +0000 UTCJust as her name was derived from badly subtitled anime, I was gonna say that Jorn's design is essentially just me cramming a bunch of stuff I find hot into one character.
But then, that basically describes 97% of characters IN Trust a Goblin. So it's redundant.
Like a few TaG characters, she's only been drawn in black and white before this but, unlike them, I didn't have colours in mind the whole time.
In the end, I like keeping her in blacks and greys. As both a prudemagus and a financial consultant she should look pretty grounded (leather skirt notwithstanding) or at least not too exciting.
This also provides a nice contrast with her approach to combat which tends to be very aggressive and actually very flashy.
I wanted her to be every bit the sensible, timid person who had a bad year.
Her proportions are extra weird here cause I was trying to draw her a little like Guezav, cause I admire their art a lot. But I kinda binned it.

Thank you very very much. I feel like she came together alright in the end. And I like the idea of her contrast. A lot of other characters in TaG are similar when in battle and when not. Even Richter who is powerful and destructive has a serenity to her in battle. With Jorn I really wanted to bring home the office worker. The SENSIBLE office worker who got pushed too far too often and attacks with relentless, empty handed fury. She lacks Richters raw strength or explosive output but there is fury to her that doesn't exist in others.

Back in 1999 , a lot of anime dvds from ebay were knock-offs and had dodgy subtitles so it became "JORN TAULOPPO!!" It was really wonderfully confusing. Me and my brother joked for years that we'd put a character with that name in one of our stories. Eventually, I had to think of a name quickly and it's literally all that came to me.
