Before we had the fine invention that is the automatic alarm clock, towns folk and workers could only ensure that they were out of bed at the appropriate time by employing a knocker-upper.

A knocker-upper would travel from homestead to homestead using long sticks to tap on the upper windows of domiciles to wake those inside.

The most successful person in this profession was unquestionably Erasamandinius Akujianavelik. An immense human, standing close to eight feet tall. He wielded an unusually large stick in each hand, capable of waking up entire hotels full of people. Often reaching from one side of the street to the other, waking to homesteads at the same time. For this reason, and because his real name was difficult to say, spell or remember , Akujianavelik always went by the nickname 'Huge Knockers'

Following the invention and subsequent mass production of automatic, ringing alarm clocks Huge Knockers was made redundant but used the small fortune he had made as a world class knocker-upper to start his own fried potato snack company.

The rest is history, with Huge Knockers brand potato chips still being immensely popular in every major city in the Garlands.
