2023-10-03 09:29:34 +0000 UTC0:09 "No man is an island" John Donne. This is the theme of one of my favorite movies, "About A Boy" starring Hugh Grant, Toni Collette, and Rachel Weiss. Grant's character starts out as a totally self-centered guy who gradually comes to appreciate human connection. The movie starts with this famous Donne quote, followed by Grant's voice-over: "I am an island. I am bloody Ibiza!" It ends with another voice-over by Grant: "Every man is an island. I stand by that. But clearly some men are island chains. Underneath, they are connected..." IMHO this was Grant's best acting performance. (Ok, this is a tangent. And the slope of the tangent line is ...?)
