Stranded in Space Steam Release Date/Trailer + News

Hello.

Take a look at the Stranded in Space trailer I'm using for the Steam page. I like it; do you?!

As the date implies at the end, Stranded in Space will release via Steam on September 1st, 2023. It will have Days 1-18.

I wanted to release sooner, but I don't think it's the smartest financial decision. With the Steam Summer Sale (June 29th-July 13th) happening soon, and then the Visual Novel Sale (August 7th-14th) happening soon after, I've elected to wait.

September 1st, 2023!

Now to news, of which there is a GREAT and "damn" variety:

First, the "damn." I'm going to shoot straight with you, my Patrons, because I love you guys. Day 18 will most likely come out in early August.

I'll tell you why: The trailer took like two days to make because I'm an amateur, and Steam has been giving me crap about certain details in the build I uploaded to them. I ended up having to provide the most detailed, 5,000+ word essay about how my game has over 20+ girls, and 150+ animations. It was a mess, and if you want some bluntness, the person assigned to reviewing my build is really bad at their job. 100% they looked at the gallery and counted the total sex scenes, thinking that it was equivalent to the animation total. As if we don't do multiple animations per sex scene around here!

So, in short, I haven't been able to work on Day 18 for the past week. Believe me; I've wanted to. I'm back on track now, and there is a small chance I release at the end of July, but I wouldn't count on it. Also, there will be a preview of Day 18 in early July.

Here's the GREAT news, and I really think you guys need to get excited for this:

My second game's first release should be coming out around August, as well. I will be posting my first official preview of it in July. I really think you're gonna like it—seriously! I'll get into the specifics of why soon, but trust me when I tell you, this is some inspired, applied-lessons-learned-from-SiS work. All in all, I'll tell you like I told my ex-wife: I'm gonna make you love me again. She didn't.

...I don't have an ex-wife.

And that's about it for now, Big posts and updates are coming soon. I really appreciate the increased support. Breaking three thousand has been incredible. These next few months are gonna be huge!

Or if it told me what the correct answer was after getting it wrong it would help commiting it to memory. But I love the game man, keep up the good work! Excited for day 18 🤙👍

But I do feel like the mini game would benefit either less options that are more spaced apart like you said. Or a lower goal total.

Brian Enrique

It's just my inner completionist... I have played through the game a bunch of times in trying to unlock everything. So I think the individual days are just muddled in my brain from going over and over it each time.

Brian Enrique

I'll take a look at the health totals, Mr. Enrique. It's probably a game better suited to people who've freshly played through it, as in that scenario it'd be current in your mind. In addition, it's probably a bit too random. For example, getting days 9, 11, 13, 15, and 16 as your five choices is a lot harder than getting something like 4, 6, 9, 14, 16. Process of elimination and all that. But that's also why I made it optional. I would imagine the people who can't remember the first yoga scene with Alina aren't much interested in minigames in the first place.

Wildman

Regarding the game, can I ask, why is the question puzzle in the game? It's really not fun and 15 answers is a bit of a stretch....I can't remember what day someone asked a specific question... 😭😮‍💨

In the long run, the story well told wins!

A visual novel with lots of sex and little story would be extremely boring! - People who are dissatisfied with something are much louder than people who like something. You always have to think about that! I'm convinced your game is popular because it's like a good book, there are good lyrics, and there's a mystery that hovers over everything. If you don't like storytelling, watch porn.

Stephan Cordes

If you decide to call a competition, it won't take you much time. Maybe something will come out?

Stephan Cordes

LOL The Grandpa line killed me. Some love the trailer, some hate it; what can I say—I'm a bastard! I may do another trailer at some point. I'm currently buried in a mountain of work right now. I'll get around to it at some point, though. I appreciate the feedback.

Wildman

500 women? - If you have sex with everyone over the course of a week, that means 72 sexes a day. - Or would you prefer an orgy with everyone at the same time? (How long do you think DAZ will render on a video with 500 moving characters? Worth a try.)

Stephan Cordes

Hello WildMan, i checked it out now. This isn't actually a promo video, but more of an evening at Grandpa's, who shows me photos of different women without explaining to me what they're all about. The video starts well with the quotes. They follow one another in quick succession, it's dynamic. It should continue in the same dynamic! Only show the big pictures, do without the small ones and the surnames and do it in much faster succession (!) and without a black screen in between. Possibly fade into each other and definitely some movement (slight right-left or up-down movements, not too much.) - In between there should also be groups of women, otherwise it gets boring to only see individual characters. The women are an important part of SIS, but is that all? What makes this game special? We are in space and on a spaceship. Show that and you'll get the attention of those who are into science fiction and the like interested. Maybe the room with the big robots and some more? Show interesting scenes from the game, especially when something dynamic happens (even if it's just jumping on the bed, shooting with a water gun, yoga, ...). Also show video excerpts (the game has many videos, you don't notice them in the trailer), if no sex then maybe a kiss? Or teasing? Or a short sex scene? Also, the laptop idea is also something that other Ren'py games don't have. At least a picture of it would be good. If you maintain high dynamics and speed in the image sequence, you can interrupt it in the middle and fade in a calm image. E.g. when someone (or several) stand in front of the window to space and look outside. Infinite expanses... The picture could be enlarged very slowly so that there is a little bit of movement even in the slow part. And then it goes faster again. Check out other trailers: How long are the scenes? And what tempts potential customers to "I want one"? Maybe just ask on Patreon, Reddit or wherever who has done something like this before and if anyone would enjoy helping you with the trailer. Or, even better, do a contest! :-)

Stephan Cordes

Point taken! I should just shut up and keep up to date on the episodes, and the answer will most likely reveal itself! :P But no, it couldn't have been me. If I were there and I woke up first, I am not crafty enough to have either masterminded their problems, or been able to hide for this long. :P

Øyvind Jenssen

Well, around Day 4 (or 5) Camila said something to the effect of, "Why does it need to be that only one person woke up first? Couldn't it be multiple people woke up around the same time?" With that said, perhaps the person(s) who woke up first are responsible for the Endurance's problems? ...Or maybe it was you, Øyvind!

Wildman

By the way, now that I think about it. I don't think there ever was mentioned in the game which of the girls was the first to wake up from cryo...? The first few episodes did bring it up I remember, but I don't think we got an answer? Is that a mayor plot point later, or just something that was forgotten to add in the story? :)

Øyvind Jenssen

Man, that MC will have the new planet as his own with that many women as a possibility!! At that point, you could make this like Seinfeld, Season after season!

old_norseman

Well, I don't want to spoil anything, but when it comes to Stranded in Space 2, we haven't met everyone yet. To be purposely ambiguous (for now), there's somewhere between two and five-hundred characters left to meet.

Wildman

One question Wildman: Are you going to introduce more girls to the series? I know Pandora will soon arrive on the Endurance, but will there be others? Particularly in the second game? I am not asking for spoilers, so not askin for names or anything, just a yes and no, and if possible, around how many new girls?

Øyvind Jenssen

Love the trailer and your game, Wildman. You've done a great job. The story is fantastic. Two things I am hoping for in the future is the MC and Tiffany to actually have a serious talk with each other. I like the dom/sub relationship path with them that you are taking them on, but I just wish that they would have an actual talk. For right now. It seems the relationship between them feels a bit abusive, on both sides. But if they were to talk, that would resolve it. And the other thing is that I hope that regardless who you choose, you get to have a romantic/sexual relationship with both Ariel and Haylee down the line. :) I give your work 10/10. You have really put a lot of work in this that has paid off! :D

Øyvind Jenssen

Stranded in Space 2 - We're Still Stranded?!

Wildman

Great news, and yes while it sucks, I can wait till August. So, what's going to be the name for the sequel, Stranded in Space 2? Stranded in Space 2: Going Deeper :DDDD

Cola Powered Gamer

Wait...you didn't use Rival as a descriptor for Tiffany? I hear she has gutted people for less. Nice trailer, good to hear you have a mystery trailer in the works. The girls are great but the plot and character interactions sold me on the game.

Blacklabyrinth

Don't get me wrong, I do agree with what you're saying. In my opinion, the value of an AVN should be that it's something more than porn—the story, plot and relationship with the characters are what set it apart. The mystery and intrigue of Stranded in Space are basically my favorite things about it, and there are big moments involving those emotions/features that are coming soon. I just don't think we're in the majority, Huw. We should be, but we're not. In the year and a half Stranded in Space has been out, the majority of the negative comments have been things like, "There are too many blowjobs," or "I should get to choose how I cum at the end of the sex scenes," or "Too much writing, not enough sexual content," or "I don't want to interact with Marissa or Elsie." When I first released the game, I figured there would be more interest in the culprit/larger happenings within the story. Those topics are probably the kinds of comments I've gotten the least since releasing the game. But it'll always matter to me.

Wildman

That's fine. I'm happy to have given an opinion, whether it be acceptable or not. Besides, for me, it's only a judgment call, but this is your baby and so you will always call the shots. That's why hopefully one day you'll be earning the big bucks.

Huw Gryffin

I viewed multiple, far-more-successful-than-SiS games on Steam. Their average trailer length was 2 mins. Though I do agree that most are just looking for meaty sexual content. I debated showcasing animations/nude renders... but ultimately decided against it. Perhaps in another trailer... maybe.

Wildman

I see your point, but perhaps you wouldn't have skipped it, and instead checked out the Steam page, wherein a lot of the information you were looking for could be found? As I told my good friend Huw below, the majority of people who are looking to buy an AVN couldn't care less what the story of the game is. It's about the girls, renders, and speed of updates. I fail at one of those :(

Wildman

I appreciate the suggestions—I would say that while you and I appreciate the mystery and intrigue of Stranded in Space, the majority of potential players don't care for it, which sucks, of course, but having an AVN leading trailer with exposition and mystery > the girls in the game = DOA.

Wildman

Agree with both above, definitely too long. I feel most people playing and looking on steam are mainly looking for the meaty sexual content so lead with that while as Gryffin suggested throwing hints that there is something sinister at work. Seems more like a slideshow that the person will try to skip to the next slide.

Rhuarc

I agree with William. This video alone is too one dimensional. Your reply to David should rectify this and is definitely, in my opinion, the way to go. I think it's critically important you add that second trailer hinting at or fleshing out a little the mystery and the intrigue in the story itself which, for me, is the core strength of "Stranded In Space" and placed alongside this video within the ad. In fact, I'd personally put the second video...the story one...first up and with this "characterization" video second in line. That sets the right emphasis and the introduction of the girls will then add depth and "richness" to the story as a whole and, of course, also amply illustrate the essential "adult" aspect and its expansive potential (17 lonely ladies!!!) embedded within the story line.

Huw Gryffin

First off. . Absolutely love the game! Amazing attention to details and matching story .... As for the trailer. A bit long winded, I got bored and honestly If I had seen it while shopping for a new game I would have skipped it. It didn't really sell the game or give me an idea of what it was. You said your new to it so I understand. I do have some ideas if you wanted to reach out or care to hear them..or send me info on where to share them with you

William Dake

I actually have a second trailer like 70% done that's way more mystery/exposition based. I hope I'll get around to finishing it in July. For now, I just want to work on Day 18 because I've gone a week without rendering and I'm relapsing.

Wildman

Very nice trailer! I think it accomplishes a lot for the initial trailer. It introduces the girls on the ship, and teases tidbits about them. Perhaps a future trailer or ad could tease the mystery a little bit?

David Wilburn

Congratulations! As a long-term supporter of your work, I never had any doubts. Your writing and artwork are top-notch, and it's good to see your support base expanding. But the Steam release is going to take you to the next level. I am happy for you, and excited to see the next game as well!
