2024-04-03 15:48:38 +0000 UTCOne follow up thought, from reading the beginning of Chapter 16 - I'd speculated that Jesse may get involved as a stalker, that allows Lester to play the hero. It looks like Jesse may actually be a potential genuine stalker. Lester treats him like a pawn, but he seems obsessive, dangerous and unstable. He seems fixated on Sarah and a largely imaginary connection, and he's actually developing the belief that all Sarah needs is his go ahead to leave her husband. How that reconciles with his earlier conduct where he literally molested her in her sleep, stole from her husband's phone, and lied and pretended to be Dan to have her fuck Lester. Then there's the explosive failure of the blackmail attempt. There's no basis here for any kind of romantic fixation - he's basically repeatedly abused her and her trust in every possible way. Assuming he's sincere in his conversation with Lester, he's unstable, delusional and dangerously obsessive. That's a really bad combination normally. Combine that with what he knows about Lester and the set up... explosive. OR and I can't rule out this possibility. Jesse is playing some deeper game and pretending to Lester. But if so, I can't guess his agenda.
