If you weren't familiar with the Deetz' dinner guests there was Robert Goulet, the mustached man who was a popular crooner and sometimes actor, and talk show host Dick Cavett, who was known for in-person conversations with a lot of famous people. His talk show even had a cameo in the film "Forrest Gump". Comedian Eddie Murphy was on a talk show not long ago and told a story about his younger days, hanging out with Dick Cavett and challenging each other to do outlandish dares. In the scene where Beetlejuice lures the fly with the Zagnut candy bar and we hear the fly cry out, "Help me! Help me!", that is a nod to the original 1958 sci-fi film "The Fly", where the lead character has transformed himself into a tiny fly-hybrid and is trapped in a spider's web. Actress Sylvia Sidney played Juno, the Maitland's case worker. I've only seen one classic movie of hers - "Dead End" (1937) where she played a young woman living in a world of haves and have nots, opposite the gangster played by Humphrey Bogart. I, too, an looking forward to a "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice" (2024) watchalong with the both of you. I have not seen it, yet.
