More sketchbook stuff. I think I'll probably develop this into a finished piece. For one-off illustrations I often find it easier to find references of interesting poses and dynamics, and experiment with reconstructing them and seeing what life I can put into them with my chars or new fabrications.

I'm thinking about it in relation to when I'm drawing a comic, the poses and framing sorta design themselves often. I've heard writers say that their characters "write themselves" and they're just writing down what that character would do, and I think in some ways with drawing characters can also "draw themselves" a bit.

Characters drawing themselves takes context though, which is not there in a one-off pic, which I think is why it helps (or is a crutch) to find photos or real life gesture reference as starting points. I'm sorta at the point artistically where I could draw anything, given enough time/effort, so finding compelling anchor points in the infinite possibility space is very helpful.
