According to some legends and myths, the Kraken is a legendary cephalopod-like sea monster of gigantic size in Scandinavian folklore. Such a giant sea monster can sometimes come in handy at the end of a campaign.
So we decided to help both players and the DM - this is our version of the Kraken that attacks the ship. Its tentacles submerged in water can be moved freely on the map and the ship itself has three levels of decks.
In addition, we have created a large ocean water texture, which you can use for many other marine adventures ( whether you’re gearing up for Ghosts of Saltmarsh or sailing different seas!).
"The Kraken Attacks a Ship" [30x30] has 4 map variants (plus grid, no-grid, JPG, PNG and PDF versions) and 10 assets (ready for Roll20, Foundry or your favourite VTT platform).

Behold mighty adventurers! Grab your weapons and stand still, we are on the deep water of the ocean!
You can expect the worst, but I think you were ready to sacrifice everything when you chose this route…
Do you see this shape in the distance? This is what we came for - the monster of the depths, ultimate hunter of the ocean, one and only - Kraken! Hahaha!
Am I crazy? Well, maybe, but I have nothing to lose, and I want to be the one who will slay the beast!
We have everything we need:
- Sharp axes, so we can easily cut the tentacles
- Exploding barrels, so be careful, don’t ignite them too early!
- Spellcasters, at least one of them can throw a fireball, watch out for the flying flames
- hooks, tridents, other metal things, so when the Kraken grabs you and puts you in its mouth… Well, at least try to harm it from the inside, aight? We will try to find your relatives and give them your cut!
So suit up and get ready to fight!
As you get closer to the shade in the water, the more tentacles start to rise, climbing up on the sides of your ship. The wood starts to crack and the fight finally begins.
As the crazy captain said, the beast started to grab whatever was left on the deck - cannons, people, chests, and the huge tentacles block your way. If someone wasn’t sure if this is a do or die situation, now they realize it.
Who would win this fight? Is it enough to kill the monster? Time is not your ally, so think and act fast, because within minutes everything will sink into the cold depths of the water!
Remember, the Kraken is a fun addition to your story - it is hard to kill, so we advise you to use it at the end of the campaign, or on the other hand, you can use it to throw players into unknown places after their ship get crushed by the beast.
