Process + tips: streetwear girl

I seriously love painting these kind of characters. I got some super quick tips to help u do your own 🔥 feel free to screenshot/save these!!

First thing is anatomy and posing. We need to understand the body beneath and what it's doing, before draping it with our cool baggy clothes.

In the breakdown above, the stick figure captures the gesture and communicates the "weight" of the pose. I imagined she's leaning on the left leg, with the right sticking outwards slightly. I also gave the shoulder and pelvis a slight tilt, to make the pose more interesting... It really is the little tweaks that matter sometimes 🙌

The construction further demonstrates this, using simple 3D forms.

Also, here's how I achieved the shape language for the baggy clothes. It's as straightforward as combining shapes together. I like using rounded rectangles because of how soft they feel, but really any type of shape can work.

This is similar to the "construction" example in the previous image, but the difference here is I used 2D shapes instead of 3D ones!- It's okay to sometimes flip between using 2D and 3D for construction... i do it all the time honestly.

Finally, the color palette.

Look at the flats above, and pay attention to the amount of muted base colors i used, compared to the limited amount of accent colors. It works because of how sparingly I used them throughout the painting- especially the blue + yellow on the shoes.

And if you also find that your base colors are a little boring like I did, add some hue jitters. Using the RGB slider for this is really fun actually. I may make an updated guide on using the RGB slider- thoughts?

(It's worth noting that landing on these colors took some trial and error [see process video], so don't loose hope if you find your colors aren't quite "hitting" the first time around... sometimes, the shapes work, but the color/value needs tweakage)

Anyways, that is all for today. If this was helpful, post ur art and tag me so i can see! Also feel free to drop any questions or requests in the comments 🏄‍♂️
And as usual, thank u for looking.
