"Car troubles" GIF Process

I actually ended up adding the lil guy towards the end, because I felt the scene was a little too empty/ lacking a defined focal point. He was originally standing up, but thought that him laying next to the car told more of a story!
Anyways, all of my "rendering" was done using multiply layers clipped to the flat shapes beneath... as u can see in the gif. This workflow is intuitive for me, as its now allowing me to build more complex scenes and backgrounds without losing track of my scene elements.
This systematic approach also lets me easily move objects around as I'm painting; one clear example being the red floor-jack, which i shifted towards the right to avoid the awkward overlap with the car.
