Development Update 25.10.2024

Hey all, welcome to this week's progress report.


Level: 

We worked together with code and game design to develop a tool that will help our designers to distribute collectable resource items across the world map easily.

We are also working on a set of mesh decals that will help us add details to the Alpha Camp so it will have that nice sci-fi look to it.

For Umbar we wanted to change the design philosophy for its buildings and architecture to get a more unique and open feel to it. Check out these awesome designs that our level team came up with.




Code:

This week, we implemented shooting of ranged weapons for the new combat system. There are 4 different shoot modes:

Charged: The shot is charged up by holding the left mouse button and is fired when releasing it. Speed and damage get scaled depending on how much the shot was charged. This mode will be used for bows.

Semi-Charged: Similar to charged with the difference being, if the shot is not fully charged, it counts as a normal shot. This mode will be used for energy weapons which can fire powerful charged shots that use up more ammo.

Semi-Auto: Standard one left click, one shot mode. This mode will be used for handguns.

Full-Auto: The weapon will keep shooting as long as you hold down the left mouse button. This mode will be used for rifles.

In addition to the shoot modes, we implemented reloading as well as an overheat feature. If a weapon overheats, you will not be able to shoot until it has cooled down again. Only some weapons can overheat (e.g. energy weapons).


On a different note, we have been experimenting with and started implementing upscaling technologies (DLSS, FSR and TSR), as well as their frame generation capabilities. While upscaling will not make a meaningful difference in CPU bottlenecked areas (like story mode at the moment), graphically intense sandbox scenes or playing on higher resolutions will have a positive impact on performance when upscaling is enabled.




Character: 

The male fantasy sexy armor outfit is almost ready, once the model has been implemented for some Sethro-based characters we will transfer it over to some other models, too. The wildfire outfit redesign has also been completed and we are very happy with the results, it is a welcome quality increase for this titular piece of equipment that one of our protagonists starts out with.




Animations: 

In the animation department, we are now back on combat. The Blackwing is finished on the animation side now and has been given over to Game Design for its proper implementation. While they are getting its moves and AI ready, we are moving on to the Sandshark - a large centipede-like creature lurking under the desert sands. We also did a little polishing pass on the energy mace and heavy wrench move sets this week, improving the feel of blocking and some attacks.

On the sexy side of things, we are currently working on some Maya x Kral animations.




Design:

This week we have been designing some special moves for combat: Dropkick, Sandshark underground movement, Gobbler tongue and grab moves in general as well as movesets for the Feral Boar and Sandshark.

We also started iterating on the Warrior Village quests. Maya's dialogue with Zyke is being improved to use the new emote feature and a new, short minigame in the style of the 'suck out poison' scene from Max X Janara was designed as a predecessor to Maya and Zykes actual sex scene. The purpose is to give the player more options to flirt while also making it more interactive.

Additionally, proper log texts were added for the 'Uncle Zyke' quest and the warrior guard at the pod will now be abducted at the start of chapter 3 and can be found at the pod on guard duty before that, where Max can get some info about the warrior's claim on the metal.

The new world quest for Iljah has progressed, as well. Max can find him between Alpha Camp and Warrior Village, rescue him in the Umbar jungle from cannibals with a taste for fatty meat and finally fulfill IlJah’s gastronomic desires in the guest house in Umbar. After doing so, Iljah will move to the Mayor's party where he is available as a sex encounter for Maya.

Is there any way to deactivate mouse look when walking? I would prefer that the characters keep their heads looking frontwards so I can see them walking sideways without turning their heads. Or maybe that they would look at interactable objects only. Could it be a gameplay mechanic? I mean it would be quite innovative in order to discover interactable objects wich are not visible or lit up, I dunno...

As a potter, the new Umbar architecture is appealing. I could definitely make those on the potter's wheel.

Ah that sounds awesome, weird i have missed that, maybe it havn't been in an official dev update? no matter if it has tbh, i might've missed 1 or 2 ^^ But good to hear, sounds like an awesome fix to my concern, i don't mind playing maya for a while ^^

The save button is there, if you have no save button then you may have the wrong version of the game and have a rather old one instead that doesnt have the save feature implemented yet.

In mine on story mode, all it lists is; continue, restart greyed out (load last checkpoint), settings, what’s new, credits, main menu, quit. It’s been like that as long as I’ve known about the game. Unless I’m not doing something right?

In sandbox or in story mode? There is a save game option in the main menu in the story mode. And in sandbox there is a save scene button on the top left when in the edit mode.

This may sound like a stupid question but how do you save your game progress?

Those drakes look very good, I wonder if they can be ridden with max, since our beloved protagonist has the twins of the "Johnson Rock". Umbar's designs are original, they look like teapots, can you have tea with the girls? The costumes are up to Halo, Modern Warfare, Conan Exiles, etc. very good, Summary 8 of 10. Everything incredible, by the way Max is going to be the protagonist par excellence or we can create our own character. Fabulous job guys.

Sandbox

A couple of off-topic questions that may have been answered before, but I'm new I just found the game in August. I noticed the feral warthog model in the dev posts a few weeks back looks bigger than the current Kerpali ones. Will there be a bigger anthro-warthog? I'm not saying I'm looking for an orc substitute in the sandbox, but I'm looking for an orc substitute in the sandbox. And will the enemies eventually be poseable and able to be in animations in the sandbox? Like you know to make non-sexy fight animations etc.

Most of this was answered long ago. There's a forced Maya section and a forced Max section right at the start. After that, you can swap back and forth. The rest is coming.

Sorry in advance for my wall of text. I've got some concerns about the story, i've played the story mode a few updates back now, and i got to the point where i could swap to maya, my question is; Will it swap back and forth between the max and maya? I know you can't make a 100h long story, but i primarily want to play as a max. Hopefully the encounters with the ladies of Kerpal won't be a one off thing, i'm hopeful that there're gonna be follow up quests that would allow for more sexy time. The sex mini games you've got going on is good stuff, some of the best, but please don't forget, that small teases add an insane amount of immersion. Like flashing panties, boobs, or even turning around spreading butt :i Some smaller scenes like quickies. Could even be some sexy time that get's interrupted (could be a risky handjob/blowjob even her taking her pants down for a quicky.) which would leave you hanging until you get that sweet minegame that will aleviate the pressure. ^^ You've already got a lot of animations, it's 'just' (i know it's more work than it seems.) to fit them in a scene or place in your story and enviroment, a blowjob behind a brush/window/door, then finish in or out choices. I know you've prob got stuff planned out, but i guess i come back ever so often being weird about my concerns about where and how the story will progress? ^^ Many regards a long ass lasting supporter <3

Okay so first, good with the textures and collectables, always needed. Good for the combat too in terms of shots. The second outfit progression, much better. I will watch the youtube video though the idea of a desert enemy reminds me too much of, Though not impossible to beat, Molduga from Zelda games. Hopefully these won't be as tough to beat. And it seems the enemy monsters aren't the only ones to beign worked on. It'll make this place much more trecherous than it already was. That said, while this is going on, I too, will look forward to trying things out, perhaps even the story mode to see what has changed.
