Basing Video for this miniature is also on the way.

Thanks for everyone's patience!

How to paint Death Guard - Part 2

Comments

With the same recipe as the bone around 10 mins in.

How were the skulls painted on the shoulder pad and knee pad?

Richard Geiger

how did you paint the black tubing on the backpack, caution tubing on the head, and black parts in between the armor?

Alexander Sikorski

Awesome! Just wondering how you painted the yellow circles on the cloth? similar to yellow pipes?

Thanks, I switched from DaVinci to R&Co for my basing brushes recently. I plan to give the W&N mini brushes a try for edge highlighting.

scorchedsteel

Hello! I use a range of brushes from Winsor and Newton, Rosemary and Co and Artis Opus. The R&Co and AO are great for basecoating, layering, glazing blending and the W&N are great for edge highlights specifically the miniature series sizes 0 and 1. For the other brushes I recommend some sizes 2-3s. Hope this helps!

Infernal Brush

I love the results! If you don’t mind, what brushes do you use when painting?

scorchedsteel

This is so helpful. Thank you!

Clive Maloney

hi, great tutorial. Are you considering doing a rubric marine? I've been looking everywhere for an eavy metal guide on them

Horns Basecoat: Ushabti bone Glaze: XV-88 Glaze: Mournfang brown Glaze: Doombull brown Highlight: Ushabti bone Highlight: Screaming skull Highlight: white

What colours are used in the studio for the horns on DG models (on pauldrons etc)? always have trouble with those.

Jordan Collins

It might be worth trying another pot Andreas as sometimes Ive noticed they vary quite a lot, unfortunately some of the GW paints are just naturally chalky though. It also depends on what medium you use, I definitely recommend Daler Rowney Matt Glaze medium this stuffs great for reducing chalkiness.

Thank you Isma, you are good people <3

Good question! I would use Deathworld Forest with a tiny bit of Caliban and Rhinox Hide mixed in and glaze it in to the panels instead, this works really nicely!

Infernal Brush

Thx for releasing the best painting content available online!! <3

Ismail Sekakte

This is the best DG tutorial out there - i think ive seen them all :) You mention that you would use paints other than Athonian Camoshade for shading, if you were not going for studio look. Hope you don't mind me asking, what paints would you use? I am keen to give this a go!

James Kelly

Awesome! Thx!

Great Video! I always get some Problems with the light green colours like Death Guard Green/ Ogry Camo etc. They seem to split on my palette/brush tip and look chalky and flaky when i apply them to the model. I already tried to mix it with medium and water but i never get a smooth result. Do you have some Tips on that?

Andreas Pegrin

Thank you Rick!

Thank you :)

Thank you b3 your comment made my day and thank you for your support. I mostly use Winsor and Newton Series 7, the miniature series size 1 is what I use for the majority of detail work now. The larger brush I use in this video is a Rosemary & Co Series 33 size 1, they are great for larger less detailed work and glazing. Hope this helps!

Infernal Brush

I am so glad that I stumbled on your instagram page which has led me here! The content you are creating is absolutely amazing! The quality of these videos is great and the way you paint is truly inspiring. I am already looking forward to your next video :) One question though, what brushes are you mostly using?

b3

Amazing, thanks!

Valerio Proietti Checchi

Great video Dave! As others have said there's plenty of stuff in here that translates far beyond just the Death Guard. Looking forward to the next video!

Fantastic video mate! So many useful tips and recipes that have mileage way beyond just Deathguard as you note! The finished piece is beautiful (in a disgusting Deathguard kinda way!) too! 👏

Thank you Timothy!

This is gold, this tutorial solves many headaches, I am really grateful to have the opportunity to see such professional and well-executed and structured material

Gerard Blázquez Molina

Thankyou! I've been hanging out for this one 👌

Timothy Philpott

Looks great Dave! 👍

Dominic Booth

Great, much more to come then! One thing that I find particular difficult is GW fur 'eavy metal style. Skaven or Kruleboyz / Space wolves for example. It is a layered gradient with tricky edges... Maybe something for a future tutorial

Christian Schmidt

Thank you Christian that means a lot! I am only just getting started!

Infernal Brush

You dont get enough credit and applause for your work. It is very well done, great tutorial and please keep it going. 🤘🏻
