Bestiary Interlude : Elemental Hawk

Race Type : Ascended

Defining ability : Elemental rebirth

Elemental hawks are born with one element evident in the color of their plumage as well as the Mana Aspect Skill, their first element is of the Rare variety though exceptions for Epic can happen depending on the parents. Upon reaching full maturity the elemental hawk is given the option of being reborn all Skills reset to level 1 though they are maintained and level is reset to level one but the elemental hawk gains another element, this element can be a random Rare level element or directed with the use of sources of elemental Mana.

Elemental hawks take about one century to reach maturity though their level varies largely based on the number of elements they wield. The speed they progress at through the levels increases by a large amount with each rebirth and while each hawk is individually different they average around level one hundred and fifty for their first maturity and add another fifty levels for the next three elements. (Warning! Elemental hawks do continue to level even after they reject their rebirth, a low number of elements doesn’t always mean weakness just limited versatility)

Known weakness : elemental hawks are always extremely vulnerable following a rebirth and for a number of years after as they regain their former power, it takes them between one and two decades to regain their lost levels. Other potential weaknesses lie in countering their elemental affinities that are identifiable by their plumage.

Appearance :

Elemental hawks are large ten feet tall hawks with wing spans of over twenty feet, sharp and durable claws with a beak made for penetration. Their feathers represent their elements, the more colors the more elements innate to the elemental hawk and the more dangerous it is.

Shapeshifting doesn’t come naturally to elemental hawks, with the few who do gain access to the ability for the purpose of gaining access to tools and crafting always having at least five elements.

Behaviour : individualistic with racial unity

Elemental hawks are solitary creatures, they become social for mating purposes but otherwise build their own nests and gather their treasures always in search of sources of elemental Mana in hopes of gaining a new element or gifting a new element to their offsprings.

Individualistic clusters of nests form around the same area. While internally competitive and oftentimes aggressive towards each other in their competition for elemental Mana sources or attraction of a mate elemental hawks stand united against other races, especially in providing protections for one of their own after choosing rebirth and gaining a new element.

Power and build differences :

All elemental hawks are hybrids with a focus on Agility and Perception for their physical build, their magical build varies wildly based on their elements. While mainly fighting as casters due to their relatively fragile bodies, beware of their high speed in combination with their deadly claws or beak.

Advised kill method :

Ambushing an elemental hawk following its rebirth is the optimal method of taking down a non-mature elemental hawk. If dealing with a mature elemental hawk, come prepared with counters to their elements, come up with multiple ways of countering the same element as they have been known to adapt (for example a fire can be put out with water, smothered by lack of air or buried with earth).

Even still she shouldn't have been there and if she attacked to save her child she'd been punished.

I still think Lexi should try and bond with an elemental hawk. The hawk would likely see the different affinities and try to acquire those through a bond, chose rebirth and spend the next couple decades as a bond and grow exponentially while dungeon diving and the like. Plus being a caster, the hawk would know better ways to manipulate mana and possibly help with domain creations/modifications.

Even the elemental hawk reset ability is halfway similar to typical fantasy pheonixes!

"The speed they progress at through the levels increases by a large amount with each rebirth and while each hawk is individually different they average around level one hundred and fifty for their first maturity and add another fifty levels for the next three elements." The speed increasing would imply the amount of levels it takes to reach maturity would decrease

TFTC! 🦅 Upon reaching full maturity the elemental hawk is given the option of being reborn all Skills reset to level 1 though they are maintained and level is reset to level one but the elemental hawk gains another element, I see! Not only is Rebirth their key to immortality, but obviously to Power. As mentioned, the Hawk might choose not to undergo rebirth and continue to level, but as we've seen with Balthazar, there are debuffs associated with living a very long time. In exchange for the temporary (but potentially fatal) weakness after Rebirth, they avoid the debuffs, regaining their health and vigor. 🤔. This implies that the objective of an Elemental Hawk desiring Rebirth would be a safe area they could stay in after the process, to recover their strength...something the Reaper could easily provide in the well protected Humanoid lands. By treaty other Ascended can't even enter. The Dragon Mommy's presence was a special case, she was there for her child, who is obviously exempt from the protocols, and she's his guardian. 🫡
