New hires being announced soon..
Added 2020-08-03 18:04:47 +0000 UTCHi guys, I wanted to let you know that we finally have saved enough money and are reaching enough monthly funding to do new project hires. We can't say the names of those that will hopefully begin their involvement in the coming months yet, but I can tell the areas that they will be working on. Both are long time project contributors who are making their life choice of working for the project thanks to your generous support.
One of them will be fully working dedicated to improving the editor usability, including 2D and 3D editors. Hoping this work will make a huge difference in the coming versions on improving everyone's experience with Godot as well as making it more approachable.
The other one will be working on the website, but also on the documentation system, making sure we have a much better and modern way to access documentation.
Again, really looking forward for these announcements in the coming weeks and again thanks hugely for your continued support!

if you're gonna hire a person, to the docs and, increase user-friendliness, or so, user- experience, maybe Nathan ' GDQuest ' would be a good person, I don't know every-body working on the engine, but he seems very thorough, kind and, sincere, and genuinely interested in Godot, and he has skills ranging from video editing, to teaching, to making code, and using advanced features . . I think Nathan is one of perhaps 1 - 2 people online, that I think deserve ( I mean, is qualified ) to get a job, but it has to be someone you work well with, at core team, someone you agree with and, can have fun with, or so . . Sad to hear he was only hired part-time, perhaps the 1 person online, who deserves a full-time job, imo . . Not to mention the core devs, I've never met, or seen videos with, there are probably many there, as well . . Oh well, I certainly recommend Nathan GDQuest, to update docs, and over-all user-experience, and -interface, I think he would do a good job, for all . . . Can't wait to see what happens to Godot, very excited, for Godot 4 news, VERY excited . . <3 . .

2020-08-24 19:52:12 +0000 UTCOne big thing would be, make a bigger, more comprehensive make 2D game, and 3D game, in Godot . . And, make it so it's both for GDScript, C#, and visual script, so as one goes through the ' first game in Godot ', one gets a better foundation, in those things . . So, there's a page ' Spawn Enemies in a 2D Game ', and one can click, this is how, in GDScript, this is how, in C#, this is how, in visual script, by clicking a button, so one expands each section, so it's more readable . . . Would be really nice, if the engine makers had a really simple, silly make a game tutorial, that covers more ground, more examples, than atm . . Like, an official first game, so one can see how something looks in GDScript, C#, visual script, and can compare . . <3 $

2020-08-21 01:58:34 +0000 UTCAlso, the docs are really lacking, especially for visual script, so it's a very nice idea <3 . .

2020-08-21 01:53:23 +0000 UTCI use visual script, and having that option, of working with the engine visually, while code is more flexible, really makes the engine more user-friendly, for noobs, beginners . . I think Unity timeline is a nice feature, ie. one can drag ' animationplayer ' stuff, into a ' graph ', and place them, and sort of ' layer ' or, organize animations, also sound-effects, trigger effects, post-proc <3 . . Imo, in short term might seem, hiring a ' docs ' guy is waste, of money, rather work features, the more people that can quickly learn Godot, has a good experience, also from docs, means they will a. like it better, Patreon more, and b. stay, and c. recommend Godot, as a nice experience . . Imo, getting a really good guy at that NOW, might seem boring, but it will pay off, from now on <3 . . .

2020-08-21 01:52:26 +0000 UTCI think getting better docs is an important addition, because will help new users learn faster, and that will mean Godot grows faster, then more people can become Patreons, because it's just nicer . . I think investing in that, will mean you might get MORE people, sooner, because it's easier to use the engine, bad docs is a hindrance, because people get stuck, or leave the engine . . Powerful, user-friendly docs mean, people can make the games faster, and they will stay longer . . When that basis is improved, more people will join, each month, and people will stay longer . . Then, your next goal is Vulkan, making it an AA+/AAA engine, and improving coding, and asset work-systems, for instance, a feature where one could make a shader, visual in Blender, and just ' copy-paste ', then it's set up, works same, in Godot, would be really nice, ie. stronger work-flow for, getting work, from 3D DCC, other stuff, into Godot . . I think Vulkan will be amazing, I'm also hoping for a good terrain editor, and cinematic organizer, a ' Track Manager ', for layering a cut-scene, animation, sound, effects . . close, to Unity Timeline, so one has a ' visual ' cinematic editor, or so . .

2020-08-21 01:49:29 +0000 UTCYou guys are doing a better job, than I ever could, already . . Keep making it better, it's so cool, Godot <3 . .
Jasper Brooks
2020-08-04 03:01:46 +0000 UTCImo, the two positions you've picked are both good, and very cool, Good job, well done . . . As engine grows, we need a person to work, to keep it user-friendly, across, the board <3 . . And, the docs system will mean more users, can get going, and over time, they can become Patreons, maybe, and support the engine . . Also, better docs mean, you don't have a lot of down-time waiting for answers, you can just learn the engine . . <3

2020-08-04 02:59:54 +0000 UTCThis is amazing, pure goodness . . Godot has one of most user-friendly interfaces ever made, it's an important job . . But, also improving the documentation, since that will mean people can learn it faster . . Atm, visual script needs several improvements, ie. a better documentation system, with some examples, and tutorials, imo . . About money, since many people work on Godot, for free, why not make some payment tiers, to important contributors, so that people that do important things for Godot can get a little money, like 100 dollars, or 200 dollars, then 300 dollars, then 400 dollars each month, to do their mostly charity driven work . . . That's not a full pay-check, but I think it would be a nice way, of saying thank you, for the code, effort, perhaps a little gift . . My point is, instead of giving people a full monthly paycheck, that covers all their bills, you could give people a smaller amount, symbolic, as a little thank you, or so . . Problem is, the Patreon money doesn't look like it's enough, to support that many people, with a full-time job, each month . . . Having some sort of reward system, where you could have a bronze feature, a silver feature, a gold feature, and a platinum feature . . So, if people make a silver feature, free of charge, they get 250 dollars, for doing that . . And, so on, as a way of moving to a more commercial way, the idea is pretty bad, but I wouldn't need a full-time salary, to work for Godot, mostly do it for free, being given a little extra money, or SOMETHING, would be enough, help motivate me . . That said, the two areas you have invested in, I find them highly relevant, and much needed . . Expect me to give more, to Patreon next month ( mostly by my phone subscription is done, so I have 100 dollars extra, each month ) . . There has to be a way, to reward people, financially, with less than, a salary they can live full-time on . . For me, if I made a feature, all I'd really want was like a sort of reward-ceremony, where I could show of, and explain the feature, and a basket of fruit, wine, and perhaps 50 - 120 dollars . . To me, that could be nice, perhaps during an online stream, each month, like the online Godot Stream, I also think we need to move from Godotcon's off-line, to on-line, since that means people from all over the world, can be part of it, ie. people that can't go to Brazil, could be a part of an online ' Con ', Web Godotcon . . Then, I could pre-record videos, and we could have a nice stream, with a ton of stuff, if others did that, I could submit a video, and the organizers could post some, ' we would like a video, about this topic ', then community could send ideas in, maybe C# Coding Examples, ask people to pre-record stuff, keep them hidden, then on stream day, you have 40 - 50 pre-recorded videos, so we can have a nice stream, with new content, where the entire world can ' be ' there, because it's on the internet, not in some country, ie. if in Europe, people from Asia can't just travel here, of Brazil, people from Europe can't just travel there :(

2020-08-04 02:58:13 +0000 UTCBesides hiring somebody to improve the documentation system, we are hiring GDQuest to improve the existing documentation in the coming months.
Godot Engine
2020-08-03 20:57:10 +0000 UTCIt's great to read. What I really wanted to see is better documentation, ideally, it should be like GameMaker have.

2020-08-03 19:24:39 +0000 UTCBesides work on the doc system (which requires a lot of improvements), website work includes a proper community page (with community map), a proper showcase (the old one was a mess, had to be taken down) that includes published games, a proper unified funding page, asset library and other stuff too. We want to also create a professional network so you can put job offers as well as offer services.
Godot Engine
2020-08-03 18:49:16 +0000 UTCWhen you say the website will be the focus of one of these new hires, does it include the asset library? It's also a bit dated today... But, hey, congratulations!!!

2020-08-03 18:44:14 +0000 UTCI bet that one of them would be willnationsdev, seeing how involved he is/was with the engine's development! *thumbs up*
