Path of Dragons 14 - Chapter 89 - Commemoration

Comments

I posted a concept image on Discord yesterday. It's generated by AI (meaning it's not perfect, and it's definitely not official), but it gets the point across.

Dragon toad? Any reference art?

Fluffimp

Emperor a spilt person 9 people at once, so some of them might love him, other might hate him

Emberkin is a bipedal lizard with a focus on flame/nature, but the dragon toad is multi-elemental

James Faulkner

Ah Mannnn, a toad? That's too similar to Emberkin for me :( But, we haven't actually seen it yet. So, I'll have to reserve judgement for now... Overall, I REALLY enjoyed the book!! I adore both Krislissa and Sara. It also feels good to finally have a payoff of "dragons" considering I'm a sucker for them and it's a huge reason why I picked up PoD. I'm actually surprised it's not my favorite book (Bk 13). But it's one of the top. EDIT: It's annoying me that I'm being nitpicked for my use of "frog" here. To me IT LOOKS LIKE A FROG. Any technicality of it being a "salamander" or "gekco" does NOT change my opinion that I would have preferred a different form. It's a little thing, but if you plan to make a comment on the topic, please refrain. Any other discussion is happily welcome.

Zeteri

She's coming back later (probably next book). Spoiler from Discord.

Some different point of views would’ve been nice

Oh also, the Mountain dragon druid mini-arc felt odd too. "There has never been a Transcendent Dragon Druid Ever." In millions of years or more of history, never, not one. Hasn't happened. Oh wait, surprise!

Loved this book overall. The fight scenes were awesome and the Empire of Scale was definitely a fresh change of pace. There are a few things I feel like could have been done a lot better: 1) Constant time skips left me feeling a little disconnected from what was going on. Knowing over 2 years has passed in this tournament feels weird. This whole book felt like a rushed speed run. 2) Training montages, while frequently mentioned, were fairly light on details. 3) Sacrificial girlfriend. It felt like we got a weird time skip montage of this relationship too. 4) The tropes went kind of out of control this book. The temporary girlfriend. The mind mage that was basically introduced as the slimy snake sidekick took over the main villain energy. Their fight felt like the actual finals fight. The other villain, the wind mage, felt like his fight had to have all that cheating involved to make it hype for the finals. 5) For immortal beings that seem to place importance on strength and honor, the Empire of Scale came off as incredibly petty. Like teenage drama petty. That last fight was a mockery of the whole empire and it gets broadcasted to the entire empire? The Curator slighting him felt silly and the Chronomancer not giving him an anchor should have had real consequences. Transcendents constantly whispering "half-scale" at him, like that insult hurts someone raised outside the Empire of Scale and outside any dragon culture? Why? The blatant cheating in that last fight with deity-level illegal items? 6) Definitely a missed opportunity for quality Antagonists. From the Transcendents to others at Elijah's level, they felt so one dimensional. Imagine I tell you there is a story that has immortal cultivating civilized dragons that are arrogance over composure, pride over strength, or pettiness over intelligence.

I feel like there should have been more after the tournament about the cheating and maybe a pov. It kinda feels like it was just wrapped up a little to fast

This was well put good job

So the Empire's training for Elijah is over, and it was good to understand how dragon society works. I keep thinking about how Kirlissa gave Elijah much more than just a core or sponsorship to become a transcendent. Since the first book we have seen that Elijah carries many family traumas. He had great parents but had to live through losing both of them at the same time. He had a good older sister but was never able to find her again. Now he literally has a family around him: a younger sister he loves and wants to protect, an older brother who is hotheaded and strong-willed but is there for the family, a grumpy aunt or older-sister figure who, in her own way, takes care of everyone, and along with her a friend who is like an uncle to the family despite that facade of toughness and military discipline. Anyway, it is not a perfect family, but which one is? There is a phrase I really like: "The best family is the one that is willing to stand by your side when the world turns its back on you!" PS: I am looking forward to seeing the new form!

Marcos Miranda

new form entirely. not a evolution of current forms

Gomdia

what form is this an evolution of? it’s sounds like shape of the master and the spells sound like that to me but the author was describing shape of the world serpent and it had an evolution recently

Edgar Martinez

i love mano big brother energy, hope we get to see more of him. Also is our dragon lady really gone? it would be a shame because they made perfect couple.

Harshdeep singh Ghuman

Peak arc!

Professional_industrial_man

Thank you for the final two chapters of the book. And Tomorrow we start a new one! Yay!! It was cool to meet Mano. Reminds me of the Hawaiian God. We will see how they will get along long term. So he received a lot of money. Inflate his bank account even more! Lol. Thank you Nicholas, for this book. 😀 😄 😊

Richard Van Dijk

It will be exciting to see his new form! One person I hope he meets is the emperor it would be cool to see how he interacts with the person who is considered his emperor
