I saw that comment too and almost commented defending Casey but I was afraid I’d get accused of being him on his alt account or something, I thought once you get past that 3 minute mark the audio was pretty good, besides in the Second half of the audience interview that was hard to hear. But I heard most of it just fine on my iPhone without a Bluetooth speaker for the most part

2025-09-25 07:40:32 +0000 UTCHi, I saw a complaint about the volume level for this show on the youtube - I wanted to point out that this is actually a mixing problem and not a recording problem for this video. The left channel is significantly louder than the right, which can be a problem for a lot of setups. They are also right though that in general these shows should be mixed a bit louder. On my headphones it generally isn't an issue, but on weak speakers it can make the show hard to hear. To put this issue in practical numbers, there is about 5dB of headroom for the audio on this video - podcasts usually have 1dB or less of headroom on the final master. The recent 'I Ate the Bones' episode didn't have any problems with the left/right channels, but it was very quiet with 12dB of headroom. Again - not a big deal on my headphones, but may be an issue on weaker speakers. TLDR - Most of these issues can be solved pretty easily with a little audio mixing/mastering, the microphones and recording setup is fine! I hope this doesn't come off as another fan whining - I do this stuff professionally and wanted to provide some hopefully helpful criticism.
