Hey Dan! I love that you & your wife are teaching improv at your local community college. Part of the reason I wanted to put improv online is to spread the word and introduce it to people who don't live in NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. So love to hear you're doing that work too. And thanks for the kind words! I haven't watched this show all the way back, but my recollection was it was a fun show with some high highs, but a couple moments we stayed in too long (i.e. missed edits). I think that's pretty common with veteran performers like this lineup. We believe we can always find something fun to follow, so we let things breathe, out of confidence in the performers, and a little bit of politeness. If it's the first or second time playing with someone, I may not feel as comfortable editing their scene at the most heightened point. As opposed to a team I play with all the time, I'm more willing to edit harder (earlier) because we have history of it working and knowing we get to do more scenes together. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks again! -Casey

Really, really loved the Holy Shit set here! Y’all are so good at call-backs and remembering all the weird shit established in earlier scenes. Really amazing how committed, present, and accepting each performer was with one other and all the fun games y’all played along the way. I live rurally, so don’t get to see much improv (a million thanks for filming and putting these out there, by the way). So, for me, this was probably one of the funniest sets I’ve seen. I’m curious how you would you rate a set like this? Also, my wife and I teach a basic improv class at our local community college. Just having access to stuff of this quality is certainly having an effect on our ability to relay some of these concepts to others. Y’all are spreading the improv bug by making this available. Thanks again!

Hmm you could be reading that correctly but hard to know unless we ask Kimia. I will say this form of transitioning from scene to scene through tags and walk-ons more than edits, can sometimes lead to us over-relying on a character or an unusual thing. We occasionally get stuck in worlds when we should use an edit, as it's a much cleaner way to reset the energy and start with something new in a new world. We had a couple times in this show when we moved on, but then would look backwards, rather than forwards, and basically call for Alana to enter the scene again by talking about her character. If you're having trouble playing with someone, try to get them to justify the one unusual thing that you find the most the fun. Then you can dig into that and have fun playing with it in an "if this is true, what else is true?" way. Or try character matching and join them in their world of silly fun

As a new, budding improviser, I would've really struggled with Alana's moves as they made it hard for people to get much in word-wise without continual interruption - and I think I noticed Kimia working very, very hard to signal, as a performer, hey, we other aliens are taking you back and I, improviser kimia, want you to agree with this so we can retire this character for a bit. Would love your thoughts on if I'm reading incorrectly into any of this. Jason though, wow, he played through that expertly.
