Sin Spire – Dev Log 22

Hello everyone! Today’s post might feel a bit reflective as my day has had a rocky start and, truthfully, this week has been a bit of a challenge. Burnout has been creeping up on me – perhaps because the Christmas season didn’t really offer the kind of break I needed. Still, I wanted to follow through on my commitment to weekly updates, at least for now, so I figured I’d discuss some of my current overall goals.

Game Completion

As I’ve mentioned before, my goal is to finish and release Sin Spire in the early half of this year. Initially, the timeline was much shorter, but the scope of the game has grown beyond what I originally planned. I underestimated how much time it would take due to this expanded scope, but I’ll do everything I can to meet the current goal. The next few months are going to be busy for sure. For the rest of this month, I’ll be focusing on the following:

Next month, I plan to speed through the next two dungeons and aim to complete them both within the month (if not, I’ll be sure to mention it).

My current focus is to get the game into beta as soon as possible. This means additional art, enemies, and sex animations will take a back seat until the game is completable. Once dungeon 5 is finished and the campaign is playable up until the End Game, I’ll circle back to these things.

What’s Left of the Campaign?

There are three dungeons left to fully complete. Two of them have usable art assets whilst one of them still needs to be redesigned. Then after that there’s still the End Game section which will conclude the game’s story.

The story itself is almost complete. The script needs one final draft and then I can begin casting for Ophelia’s voice (the last character that needs one). The Raven’s voice lines are fully recorded and Savina’s are about halfway done.

As I mentioned in the last Dev Log, you will be seeing a lot more placeholders in both Dev Log images and builds. There will also be fewer new enemies and sex animations, which I know may disappoint some of you who’ve been looking forward to more variety. However, rest assured these elements will get their time.

For now, the focus is on getting all the basics in place so that, no matter what, I can get to an MVP (minimum viable product) sometime in March.

Development Logs

I also want to briefly address Dev Logs. I believe they’re important for keeping you all in the loop and ensuring I don’t go silent. However, writing them every week takes time and energy that could be spent on development, resting, or practicing (something I’ve been neglecting).

I’m considering two approaches moving forward:

I’ll post a poll during the week to gather your feedback, but feel free to share your thoughts and comment here as well!

Practice Art

On a related note, if you’re interested, I could share some of my practice art. As a 3D artist primarily, I’ve been somewhat neglectful of my art practice lately. Normally, I’d do character sculpts here and there, but I feel like I’m getting a bit rusty. Practice art wouldn’t be related to Sin Spire in tone or style, but it might still be fun for some of you to see. Let me know if it’s something you’d enjoy – it’d be a new experience for me.

Next Up

Next week, I’ll be revealing the Stalker for the Trap Dungeon. She’s a fun character with some of my favorite voice lines. Despite the hiccups this week, I’m really looking forward to sharing more about her with you all.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading this long, wordy post. Your support, as always, means a lot to me and keeps me motivated even during times of burnout.

See you all next time!

Thank you! I will definitely ease up on a few things.

Thank you for your kind words! I have been a bit neglectful to myself as of late. I've decided to ease up on the Dev Logs at the very least and took a break earlier this week.

Krasue Pisac

Thanks a lot! I've decided to ease things up a bit, yeah.

Krasue Pisac

Thank you!

Krasue Pisac

You just proved my point by replying to almost everybody already? Your very engaged with your community. More than i could say of most developers i follow... Keep up the good work and if you need a break then take it!

Tester

Come on, I wish you success!

Please play safe Krasue. We don't want to see you overdoing till u feel sickness for a masterpiece. Plz take time, get some rest. True supporters will always support u no matter what. We know u can do it Karsue!

Will the official version include Chinese? Using AI translation is fine, as it works for normal gameplay, but I can't understand the character dialogues at all.

Mental and physical health will always be more important, take breaks if you need to I'm sure everyone will understand. What you've done is already more than enough. Your an amazing creator.

We all appreciate your hard work and your concern over the waiting time. But this timeframe is too strict for you, a single developer needs more time to account for the help he isn't getting from a proper team. No human being should spend all his waking hours working. It's not fair, you need time to take care of yourself as well, gym or other physical activities, and hobbies to ease the burden on your mind. As much as we want to play your game, we don't want it at the cost of your well-being. And look from another perspective, if you are well rested and healthy body/mind with a reasonable amount of work hours during the week, your projects and creativity will benefit a lot from that, you will be your best version.

Blue Keanu

good luck and have fun either way ^^

Thanks, I would obviously prioritize what I want to do for the most part but at the same time I don't want to neglect you guys. The Dev Logs are a way of being transparent about general progress but every week is probably (almost definitely) overdoing it. This is for Sin Spire, but also applies to all future projects I work on as well. But yes, if I feel like taking a break, I should probably just take a break.

Krasue Pisac

Practice is more-or-less something I need to do anyway as I've been getting a bit rusty on my sculpting. But sharing any that get to a nice and presentable stage might be fun.

Krasue Pisac

I'm glad you like it! I definitely want to make more gameplay infused adult games in the future and am always on the look-out for more to try out for both fun and research.

Krasue Pisac

Thanks! 2 updates might be the way to go but we'll see how it works out.

Krasue Pisac

Thank you!

Krasue Pisac

The style and speed of the animations probably won't change as there are quite a lot to get through thanks to how stages work. Maybe for future projects with a lot of enemies, I'll try and lower the amount of stage animations there are try something simpler for variation.

Krasue Pisac

Thanks. Admittedly part of the reason why I want to finish the game sooner rather than later is because A. I want to move onto other things and B. I don't want to leave everyone waiting too long. I'll try and pace myself better, though. Maybe the suggested timeframe is too much...

Krasue Pisac

I won't give up easily, it'd have to take something pretty terrible for that to happen. But yes, I think having less Dev Logs might help with freeing up some additional time for resting.

Krasue Pisac

Thanks! I'm glad you like them. It was usually subtle scares in old games that scared me more than scary monsters or jumpscares (not that jumpscares were that common).

Krasue Pisac

Thanks! Yes, I'm the sole person working on this outside of voice acting.

Krasue Pisac

Yes, I might try and just post at least once a month, maybe twice if there's a lot to show. This would also be for future projects too.

Krasue Pisac

It's only planned for Stalkers and won't be added for some time.

Krasue Pisac

In my opinion i would say do whatever YOU feel like doing? If to many dev logs really takes a toll on your mental health and feels like it's to much, we completely understand to tone it back down a bit. Most developers i follow on this platform do 1 massive dev log a month! They tone down all the changes and improvements they made and what to expect next. I think if you would start doing the same, that it may give you alot of peace of mind in return for it. It's true that it's important for a developer to listen to the audience. But not towards the point that you allow yourself to be driven by us... That's just insanse as truth to be told. We subscribed to you to eventually let you deliver this masterpiece of a game? I recommend to take a step back and take it a bit easier on yourself!

Tester

practice art would be dope, always cool to see the creative process and I think the extra care for your craft would show in the game

Qtaro Kujo

if weekly dev logs are proving tiresome try bi weekly, the important thing is you don't get burnt out, so take brakes when you need em, change how you do things as you need to, just don't give up or burn out

Zacchai Connell

I love the weekly updates, but if it gets in the way of your health and downtime, it isn't worth it. Real fan of the subtle scares, like the one in the main hub and sanity effects. Looking forward to how your game turns out.

Alex rogel

Did you do all of this by yourself? That's amazing! I'm looking forward to the final product, and I will definitely support it!

zwb1050184650

We all want the game to come out faster, but we also all realize that quality takes time, and quality takes rest. I suggest that once a month you write a dewlog, and once a fortnight you write something short and intriguing, like “A lot of work was done this week, ...”. I will describe the rest in a full dewlog”. And people know that the project is alive and you can rest easy. And by the way yes, it would be interesting to see your work, maybe all together we can think of something that could be done with them. P.s I write through a translator, maybe something is not formulated.

Jason Brody

İn the future will the enemies fuck us too? Like i mean when they defeat us.

mkiller334

Hey buddy, don't give yourself such a short period of development. The project you are making is impressive for just one person, so you will need more time to develop healthily. Don't force yourself into a burnout, we can wait a little longer for the game.

Blue Keanu

Good game. Not many of those. Lately stuck on a fetish with all sorts of horror, and straight cool to race and “punish” all sorts of monsters in the dungeon) I hope the new animations will include “hard” options, but even now they're not bad.

Daniel

Take your time to rest you are doing wonders for this community you are one of the most effective developers I have seen

Woodwinner

if progress would speed up and or ur health would be spared by it then i doubt too many would complain about you not writing a dev log every week... i mean honostly 2 massive updates per month? sounds like a win to me =) get well again soon!

N3WC0MM3R

Thank you for creating this game. There are so many boring, generic garbage titles out there that makes games like this one, Karryn's Prison, Tales of Androgyny etc stand out.
