ORGAN KEYBOARD BUILD VID SO FAR

so here is the progress so far. very glad to have tackled this as initially i thought it was going to be too big of a job. but its not that bad, just fiddly!

i was hoping to be a lot further, infact finished with a video up tomorrow but had a bit of an issue this week.

My first experience of covid. its pretty horrid, only managed to do an hour here and there on the keyboard before it being unpleasant. i had a couple of days just after summer last year where i was a bit ill and a couple of people said it might have been covid but i'm starting to think that was just a cold as this week it has knocked me back for six, its not pleasent at all, i'm amazed i managed to avoid it for this long. anyways hopefully it'll be over soon and can get back to a usual pace! but until then hope this little vid is interesting, it shows how the keyboard is put together anyway!

ps i shot the talkey bits in the vid above on wednesday, it was all downhill from there haha, i haven't done any more talking in the videos since then as i canny get a word in without coughing haha.

The internal key bushings are made from bushing cloth… It’s bought in strips from a piano parts supplier. Fitting it is fiddly. It comes in different thicknesses.

Below the keys, they’re about 12mm across.

hi tim intrigued by the internal bushings for the keys are they an off the shelf item too?

Actually one sec are we talking about the pads that go below or above the keys?

tim thanks a lot for the offer! i actually have some i bought for it, but it didnt have them in before it was a felt pad like i put in, when i put the green washers on they were stopping it from levering properly, so i guess it explains why they went for the long thin pad approach instead?. its a very shallow action to it. thanks a lot though tim!

Sam, if you PM me I can send you a bag of the round green baize washers that are supposed to go on the front key pins… I’m a piano tuner in Oxford :)
