Bummed I missed out on commenting here. I think this whole discussion really hinges around how we can effectively gain power over the entrenched capitalist powers in government, and how American society could be better socialized. WRT speeding, we're seeing people commit crimes here. So the issue isn't with law, it's a prevalence of anti-social behavior. This is prevalent in American society, and if we're honest, in car enthusiasts specifically. Things like crossing the double yellow, pops n bangs tunes, takeovers, etc. I'm with Matt on this, but I think I'd add that a speed limiter on cars would drive a churn of discontent for government similar to what comes from surveillance by intelligence. This is toxic to any political project or order that seeks to be democratic and tap it's legitimacy from an engaged population. The individualist mindset goes back to the very fundamentals of American culture, into things like manifest destiny and frontier "settling". Anyway, I think the best solution now is better driver training, maybe make people play a gristly version of beamng or something, and traffic calming road designs that you both agree on.
