Half an hour later, Paige’s car pulled up in front of the mansion, its headlights cutting through the dreary rain. "You can wait here, Violet. This won’t take long."
The doctor looked impeccable despite the urgency of the call, her auburn hair pulled back into the severe bun she preferred. Stepping out of the car, she cursed at the rain, worried it might ruin her expensive leather pumps. She snapped open an umbrella and hurried the short distance to the entrance, walking on wet stone steps.
"Damn it, María, couldn’t you lose it on a sunny Sunday afternoon instead?"
Reaching the grand door, she rang the polished brass bell. A moment later, the door opened to reveal Gloria, still in her bathrobe but already drinking a margarita.
"Ay, Paige, you here! Gracias a Dios."
"Where is she?" Paige asked as she shook off the rain from her umbrella.
"Upstairs, in her room, doctor," Gloria replied, stepping aside to let Paige in.
"Okay, darling." Paige handed over her umbrella and trench coat, noting with mild amusement how Gloria, ever the entitled bimbo, took them without complaint. Paige was one of the few people Gloria respected enough to serve in any capacity. "Before I forget, I brought you something." Paige reached into her handbag, pulling out an unlabeled bottle and handing it to Gloria. "For you, my dear, and for how proud I am of how you’ve reimagined your life."
Enjoyyy! 💋Xoxo💋
