It's so interesting to me that Aizawa's quirk wasn't highly regarded when he was in school, from the main show you never would have guessed that. Also, now that you've mentioned it, I guess him and Koichi are way more alike than I ever realized! Maybe that's why he's so lenient with him? I also get Mirio vibes from Shirakumo, it makes him instantly loveable!

I was so surprised to see Shirakumo was a reference to Wukong since Wukong is My favorite mythological character and my pfp is even of a version of him from a webtoon God of High school. it makes him one of my favs now. 2. at the very start of the episode we see that when Midnight was calling Aizawa she was petting Sushi!

That’s also the biggest shocker for me, the fact that they didn’t have to change that at all for the anime. Historically, this is a big problem with JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, where in the manga, a huge amount of the characters/abilities are western music references. This resulted in the anime sometimes changing stuff like “Bad Company” to “Worse Company”, or “Steely Dan” to “Dan of Steel”. In this case at least, it’s more so the design, and the name is just a very on the nose reference, His Purple Highness.

Now that I'd gotten settled into the show I guess it drifted to the back of my mind, so it was such a nice surprise to realize what was happening here

2026-02-16 03:09:50 +0000 UTCOboro Shirakumo, if he's not a reference to both Son Wukong and Dragon Ball's Goku, idk what is! If I had to give a guesstimate for how many of these episodes are being centered around Aizawa's backstory, I'd say 4 or 5 episodes in total. These thoughts and concerns that Aizawa had as a student are similar to the ones Deku had at the USJ when his thinking was a bit more narrow-minded and quirk-centric. I think that the phone conversation that Midnight and Aizawa had shows how close they are. And Aizawa's reaction to her shows that she's right. So this current arc technically happens after the next arc, but they happen so close to each other that it can be placed interchangeably. And because this arc happens in the past outside of current Vigilantes story events, it works fine here. So back in season 5 of MHA, I had no idea that they ever intended to animate Vigilantes, but I thought those specific chapters about Aizawa's backstory were worth pointing out at the time, so I recommended you read them before that episode that revealed Kurogiri's identity. Random thought, but Mic had literal MEGAPHONES on his wrists in his one-on-one combat exercise. I'm glad he and Midnight improved their hero costumes. But when you think about it, Aizawa's hero costume is just the clothes we always see him in. He doesn't really change his outfit! I'm excited to watch more of this arc with you!

2026-02-16 02:55:14 +0000 UTCYou can imagine how crazy the Kurogiri = Shirakumo reveal was for vigilantes readers who actually knew who the character was lol. It feels like it comes completely out of nowhere in the main show, but for Vigilantes readers we got a whole arc setting it up and we didn't even know it. I was in disbelief that the "random" guy from Aizawa's backstory in a spin-off ended up being SO relevant. I really like Shirakumo too... makes me sad how he ended up :(
