100 Meters Reaction Extended (Shorter version below)

Gotta second the recommendation to watch Run with the Wind. There's definitely some overlap in themes with 100m but with more perspectives on running (or whatever activity/pursuit it can metaphorically stand in for) from inexperienced and even unwilling participants. (In fact, that show inspired me to start running again, despite the fact that I do not like running. Now I've got all this exercise gear and a regular route. So, viewer beware, I guess?) Good humor too. Your succinct explanation for Zaitsu's retirement really helped me make sense of that scene. Before the race, he talked about the "loneliness at the top," but as soon as others caught up to him, he retired. I didn't really get that. But the idea that he lost because he was ready to retire, not the other way around, is perfect. One thing I appreciate about this movie is that we get so many perspectives that are somewhat in conflict and remain that way. As your doppelganger said at one point, "Thanks, but I have my own way" (or something like that). I didn't walk away from this movie feeling directed toward one particular interpretation of the themes. The characters run for different reasons and find fulfillment in different things—sometimes in direct contradiction to the reasons and things of other characters—and their perspectives change over time and sometimes loop back around to what they were before. There's not a singular overarching message, really, but a lot of viewpoints that I'm sure speak to every viewer differently. For me, it was the bit about the fear of failure taking away my joy, fulfillment, and potential within [insert whatever activity here]. Still working on that. As always, I appreciate your own lore drops (and all the Ls taken, ha).

That's the framing for the movie but it works extra well because so many people will naturally understand it. Racing was everything at a certain age !

2026-01-25 23:26:42 +0000 UTCIt was nice to hear, that this movie also made you remember some experiences from your past, even tho they were negative, so I wanted to share something too. I was also fast when i was young, but stopped improving when i got my first PC... A competition came up and there was someone who was always the same Speed as me and we always improved at the same rate. This time he beat me so bad, i couldn't believe it, and the rain race made me remember that so vividly. Was 13 Years ago now. I quit after that, but having seen this movie, now I wish I didn't 😭 So yeah, i could really relate to all the Characters and appreciate the value, Characters like Kaidou and Zaitsu can have on other People. I really like how the Author can make you think about these things. I even started running again just to see how fast i can get, even tho I'm too old to take it seriously, but hey if Kaidou can delude himself, then so can I. Would also talk about the Themes and such too, but this comment is already so long, and you discused it already very nicely. Great Reaction!

2026-01-25 22:27:20 +0000 UTCI feel like you'd really appreciate run with the wind, on the topic of running anime. Same animation team as haikyuu too but it's a 23 ep long running anime that's completed
