Thanks for that term, I hadn't heard it before. I did try other Yakuza games after 0 but couldn't get into them as much, unfortunately! Not sure why and haven't totally given up. There's also a turn based RPG I think (8?) that I want to try as well

For the ending milet is back with another beautiful song, and the visuals have also been getting a lot of buzz on the internet recently, as the artist behind it shared a clip of them flipping through the hand drawn on paper frames. x.com/aoumemimei/status/2012695958824407124 In other news I finished the last Yakuza 0 substory the other day, so here comes a little impromptu review. Absolutely incredible game. Going in, all I knew was the protagonist’s name, that he shared a VA with Razor from Hunter x Hunter, Baka Mitai, and something about dressing up hostesses that I recalled from one of your videos. I recently learned about something called ludonarrative dissonance, which is basically when a game has conflict between the non-interactive narrative and the interactable game. An example would be The Last of Us Part 2, where you kill hundreds of people throughout the game, which never gets acknowledged, but there’s a narrative struggle over killing Abby. Yakuza 0 probably has the most of this of any game I’ve played in recent memory. But somehow, due to the sheer ridiculousness of it, I think it works. Sure, Makoto is alone in an old warehouse, with no way to get food and water, but would Yuki look better in the red or the yellow dress? In The Last of Us Part 2, the game takes itself seriously at all times, and is fully committed to the narrative it’s telling, which makes those moments of dissonance stand out more, and become a negative. Whereas in Yakuza 0, even the main story can be a little over the top and dramatic, so when you dive into the sheer chaos that is the side content, it doesn’t even try to be serious. All that said. I genuinely loved the game and can’t wait to continue the series. I wasn’t going to do it so soon, but after I finish Baldur’s Gate 3 (which I’m currently also loving) I’ll probably jump right back in.

Also I'm going to pretend that Ubel having to empathize with Wirbel's views on killing is something she'll have to hold on to in order to keep using his spell... so she's slightly less crazy now. We can fix her. Best girl.
