Having been a kid and teenager it's hard to say what my parents did that was effective. There was some things for which no amount of talking or reasoning would have stopped me. I can also say with certainty that there was no perfect solution for my adolescent stupidity 😂 It's tough because I also don't think the answer is always being supportive or being someone to talk with. Sometimes a hard line is probably more appropriate. I think the difficulty of knowing which is which and what the proper tool is is the curse of being a parent

"this is a lot of information, it's very confusing" yeppp that's what it feels like to watch this show until it all clicks (eventually). Now take this confusion and multiply it by 5 and you have the novels😂

This is just conjecture, so people can correct me if I'm wrong. I think that Maomao was expected to pay the old woman(head lady of the Verdigris house) for the 'real estate' she provided for her mother in the annex. Hence why she was always trying to bring in clients and business to "pay off her debt" on behalf of her mother, else she be made a courtesan or sold off. I guess that expectation since a young age also sort of shaped her natural inclination of ways to think about business opportunities and making money.

about the question on how/if parents should stop kids from doing stupid things - i'd think it's better to not try control them too much, but how stupid are the things you're talking about 😆 i'm not a parent or anything, the closest experience i have to that is having a sister who's around a decade younger than me. she told me about first trying vaping and drinking (and continuing vaping and drinking) and back then if i ratted her out to our parents or something - sure, it'd maybe have prevented her from vaping one time. then she would've just stopped telling me stuff and would've gotten at better at hiding it. it'd be similar if i tried to convince her that she should stop doing it when she tried to tell me about it i bet her having an option to talk with someone about this stuff does a lot more for limiting it than trying to straight up control it (and y'know, doesn't ruin our relationship as a plus). like since i didn't make a huge deal about her vaping she also talked with me about how she was trying to quit it also the whole conflict you're talking about - parents being like 'ok my kid is stupid by the virtue of being a kid, but could they please stop that as soon as possible because that's really dangerous' can be summed up as parents wishing they could speed up development of their kids' understanding of the world, common sense or something like that, right. but getting the kid to actually talk and think is what will speed up that development, trying to be like 'nope, *don't* think or make choices for yourself' is just going to stunt it, or in the best case scenario prevent them from learning from you specifically

"Will this make her like me?"
