That's a great comparison. Also a really interesting idea that we actually do know most of these things. It does sometimes feel like it's all already there for the taking. It's just extremely difficult to live that way perpetually. I think Jolenta touches on that also with how difficult it would be to constantly have the mind "flexed" in that way at so that we are NEVER taking shortcuts of any kind or being overly committed in any way. There are always tradeoffs. In this case the benefit of that kind of over conviction is when it's time to actually do something big, those who waver will perish

It seems like you already found out that a better translation of the episode title would be "Wandering is how you find what's Right", instead of this morality shenanigan that Netflix did hahaha But going off that, I think both the title and the episode itself heavily reminded me of (once again) the Hange vs Floch dynamic from AOT. It's really interesting because I think what Yolenta is telling Draka here in this episode is basically the exact same line of thinking as to why Hange told Floch that even if they don't know a better solution than Eren's plan backed by hatred, it still wouldn't do to just settle for the low hanging fruit that is compartmentalizing the entire conflict and putting labels on people across the sea as "enemies". People like Floch are deathly scared of the so-called "wandering" process mentioned by Yolenta in this episode, and they would rather hold on to wrongful convictions as long as they have a clear goal & method to work with. But Hange stressed that though she regrets her inability to preach a better plan of action to Eren, she is certain on not settling with senseless global violence ---- even if it left her "wandering" without a clear method in the process. It's interesting because I think this is a very universal lesson that all of humanity will come to realize, that "wandering is how you find what's right". It represents the never ending journey that humanity undertakes towards truth, knowing that we'll never fully reach it, but striving towards it nonetheless. It's what Oczy previously told Badeni on allowing ideas to be challenged, even if it means we'll never reach the absolute truth ---- because that's impossible with or without the freedom to debate. The irony is that I think humanity as a whole actually understands this, on a universal level, yet we choose to turn our eyes away from it and pretend that our convictions represent the full truth of any reality. We like to dwell in our delusion and think that we have all the puzzle pieces to life, or whatever else ---- as long as we don't have to face the frightening reality of "wandering". But wandering is growing, it's how life is meant to be lived, and how value is obtained in this world. Going back to AOT, I also think it's what the Survey Corps with their Wings of Freedom ultimately represents: that we will strive forevermore towards reaching understandings between people, understandings within this world, and understandings in Truth. These shows really highlight some of the simplest, but also the greatest wisdoms of humanity, man...

Lol I didn't know that but can't say I'm too surprised. I've also heard that said about the VHS or DVD? Can't quite remember, good chance it's both.

Alright, this might be a weird tangent, but your comment about porn being the first use of new technology is literally a thought I had the other day. It reminded me of this thing a while back, which, after some light research, (turns out researching porn without getting porn can be surprisingly difficult) it’s probably not even true. Regardless, it doesn’t really affect much. The rumor was that when Bioshock came out, there was so much porn of one of the protagonists, that it led to developments that revolutionized the 3D modeling program, Blender. The more likely thing is that Bioshock happened to come out around a time 3D modeling programs happened to be advancing significantly. Anyway, point is I am both shocked and somehow not surprised at all that this is a very common trend with new technology. Also, fun fact: did you know there is so much Overwatch porn that there is an entire Wikipedia article specifically titled, “Overwatch and pornography”? Came across that gem of a Wikipedia page while looking into this whole thing.

That's a really nice thought ! Then the irony would be My kid: Anime SSUCKS! Me, a contrarian: I'm so proud of you Everyone: *claps

Oh yeah she was the inspiration!

You have all these videos for your unborn children. Much cooler than a diary.

It’s so wonderful that Jolenta had the chance to hear the very book she inspired Oczy to write with her message about how reading and writing are miracles.

That's very nicely said. I guess that by "wandering" you might even come to the same conclusions but know them more deeply and resoundingly. I realized later that part of the confusion might also be because of the translation. When I watched it on Netflix the episode name and those lines were something like "morality is something you find when you're lost," but looking up the episode title on Wikipedia it's "wandering is how you find what's right." The latter interpretation I think speaks better to that idea of moving through life and taking in the feedback that the world is showing you.

I've been watching for ages but don't normally comment much. I feel like the Orb vids don't get enough comments though so I'll throw my 2 cents in. Honestly these yapisodes of Orb are always my favorite, and Jolenta seems to have reached the point of being arguably the most self aware character, even if maybe not one of the most aligned to truth (Oczy and Rafael probably still the best examples of that). I think in terms of finding morality when lost, your interpretation is definitley one of the couple ways I've taken it. Another I can think of it in is the stuff you've often brought up in the past on how we have external structures that determine our world view. I think this naturally applies to morality as well. Initially it is inherited, and these values can remain very strong throughout life. I think Jolenta is commenting on making sure we don't stay rigid to these moral constructs, and in those moments we most feel the 'pain' that something is wrong, our world view needs updating. When we strike out at something or do something that aligns with our current moral code, but might still feel wrong all of a sudden, this could be a moment where we begin to be lost. As there is obviously a dissonance happening here. I think she's telling Draka to listen to those moments, to keep her mind open in these moments as she continues on her path to her conviction. Telling her to keep chasing that need to accrue money and meet her conviction, but to engage with other worldviews, be they parallel to her conviction (and therefore adding to it in a more holistic sense) or even contradictory (meaning there needs to be a refinement and reflection).
